Was thinking along the exact same lines.... :D

Spoiler for NSFC:
I've read you have to be very careful when participating in that "sport". The climax can be so violent and physical that people have had their wrists broken!

Always makes me laugh when commentators say about a saved goal, "Oh the keeper fisted that one away!"

That, gentlemen, was the joke.

I'm saying its understandable the whole town apart from a handful of non sport guys would be excited about team success. I don't see how a music artist is similar tbh they don't really represent the city in the same way.

She's a redundant relic of a state oppression system that all but tried to force the Irish into annihilation, but of course all that's forgotten about now. :D Still hate the bitch, sorry if that's crossing the line with you.

It's cool I don't care about the monarchy. Don't have strong feelings either way, I can see some of its benefits as well as its faults.

But rivalries aside, I'm talking about the general behaviour of fans, and even were we in the WC this year and our guys met your guys, I'm going to lay good money that if there was any trouble it would have been started by your lads. They have improved, undoubtedly, but the Irish fans never had to. They were always great. Well, as long as I've been following footy, which is from Italia 90 or so.
:shycouch:

Nordies are of course a different matter, but they have their own fans. If they ever make it to a world or European championship!
It would, not denying it. But a lot of people just turn up because traveling with England has a certain appeal to it for people not too concerned with the game, and England is a much bigger nation than Ireland so more troublemakers are going to go. Other European nations don't have the same culture of traveling that we do as well. It just attracts a lot of the wrong types.

I know what you mean. When Ireland qualify, or have a chance of doing so, everyone from babies to grannies, who would have zero interest in footy (footy footy FOOTY!) or even rugby get all excited and swept up in the occasion. It's always a good thing; brings the whole community together. Nothing like walking down streets seeing flags hanging out of windows, people chanting, everyone dressed in green, cars honking etc. Makes you forget your troubles - till we get knocked out at the preliminary stages of course! :D

Seriously, and I'm not being a dick, what benefits? I don't see any but of course I'm Irish so you know. But what benefits do you see England gets in retaining an outdated system that almost no other country still uses?

Good point. And you always have the likes of Combat-13.

What do you mean? Sports teams are typically filled with players who aren't from the city they play for, owned by people who may or may not be from the city in question, and the team itself may, at the drop of a hat, pack up and relocate to a different city. How does that represent a city more than a band comprised of individuals from that city who also got their start as a band in that city?
