Everyone on the internet.

Lisnaholic 07-22-2018 06:10 PM

@ Rubber Soul: Yes, you absolutely belong here, rubber soul. As you know, I've always enjoyed your many contributions to the music threads. :thumb:

@ Everyone: If this thread is a cry for attention, well it's hardly the first such on MB, so why not give RS some forum love, meagre as it is, and vote "Yes" in the poll to cheer him up?

@ YorkeDaddy: Regardless of the rights and wrongs of your difference of opinion, if rubber soul is more thin-skinned than you first expected, why not offer to leave him alone? He's been going through some difficult things irl recently and in any case, there's plenty of space on MB for two contradictory opinions to co-exist; plenty of space for two members to dodge around each other.

I was completely ready to do just this, until he continued on multiple occasions to make snide, passive aggressive comments during discussions I wasn’t even a part of, saying nonsense like “lol don’t say such and such or you’ll be called a racist.” It was so obnoxious and frustrating that I called him out on it. If he would have stopped talking about it after our initial discussions I never would have brought it up again

Lisnaholic 07-22-2018 06:19 PM

^ If that's true, perhaps he'll tone that down when he comes back now that you've pointed it out.

YorkeDaddy 07-22-2018 06:22 PM

You can easily see that it’s true by looking at his posting history. He kept bringing it up totally unprovoked

If he does come back and never brings it up again I’ll leave him alone. If he keeps throwing a hissy fit when people take offense to his ignorant posts, I won’t leave him alone

I don't think it's rubber soul who has to tone it down. I think it's the other way around, it's the guy who attacked rubber soul who has to tune it down a bit. Rubber Soul never said what [said member] accused him of saying. Rubber soul's response was to "didn’t learn" which he said "grow stupider" he never said "gets racist." It's [said member] twisting rubber soul's words around and ramping it up into an argument.

I honestly don't know for sure if this is only a misunderstanding on the part of [said member] or that [said member] is trolling for an argument. But I'm placing my bet it's trolling.

Glad to have extra confirmation that either Nea can’t read or has selective reading that only benefits his point! I’m placing my bet it’s the former.

^ If this is your smoking gun, YorkeDaddy, then on the evidence presented so far I agree with the appraisal of MicShazam and Neapolitan. It's not fair to lay the blame for segregated water fountains at rubbersoul's door, but you seem to be painting him as an outright racist regardless. To your credit, you are fair and factual enough to have included in your quote the bit that I have bolded, which rather undercuts your complaint, imo, because it is both uncontroversial and amicable.

To try and get a bit of context, I read on through that hip-hop thread expecting to find some "snide, passive aggressive comments", but instead I found this from RS:-

Anyhow, this is supposed to be a thread about hip-hop so I'll take my leave. Keep fighting the good fight. :)

Well we were pointing out that Rubber Soul seemed to be showing subconscious racial bias as opposed to outright racism. Dismissing that out of hand and then trying to pass it off as normal for older folk is exactly the kind of thing that keeps subconscious racial biases around, which can be frustrating even if the person specifically being spoken to isn't necessarily showing any real lack of character, just lack of self-awareness. Especially since well-meaning people like you question whether we're not just imagining things (not a shot at you, just saying). YorkeDaddy is certainly a cock goblin though.

Lisnaholic 07-23-2018 11:21 AM

^ Thanks for trying to explain the problem, Batlord. As others have suggested, it's beginning to look like an over-analysed storm in a teacup to me. Nevertheless, I can't quite avoid topping up the teacup with another splash of analysis:-

(i) Imputing someone for subconscious racial bias based on MB posts sounds like a bit of a stretch to me. As we all know, based on the words of a post, it's often hard enough just to tell what's a joke and what's a serious comment, let alone something as subtle as subconscious bias.
(ii) I understand that coming up against subconscious racial bias can be frustrating. It's a pity that YD didn't spell that out as clearly, as dispassionately, as you have just done when he posted:-

Why would that even be a problem? I'm so much of a liberal cuck boy that I have feminist literature on my bookshelf, but I never agreed with this retarded war of words. It's not pragmatic, it's silly and damaging to any cause worth fighting for.

I also realize that forums as a whole are perhaps a way for people to heap abuse on others since they are too chicken to do it in real life lest they get punched in the face.

I did come back with the hope that Exo's edict would make a difference and, to an extent, it has. Still, I didn't come back here to receive abuse. I simply wanted to enjoy the musical discussions and, frankly, I do think I contribute some here, maybe not as much as Trollheart, obviously, but I thought I carried my share.

So I guess the question is do I really contribute here or am I just a waste of time? I will keep the poll up for a week while I take a sabbatical (meaning no posts or MB Classics). If, when I return, I see that more people than not do not want me here, then I'll be happy to leave. After all I don't want to contaminate this post with uneducated posts without any musical contributions.

See you all in a week (maybe)

I think your hypersensitivity and penchant for uninteresting drama makes your presence a net negative. I’d prefer you not to comeback.

MicShazam 07-23-2018 05:07 PM
