Upgrades to musicbanter

Continuing from a discussion we were having here: https://www.musicbanter.com/stereo-p...verb-tips.html what would be some updates that musicbanter members would like to have on the forum? I'm talking about technical things that you don't see are working or are outdated etc, some better functions you've seen on other forums that could be implemented here (in a hypothetical situation where we had owners that could afford it), things that would improve your forum experience etc.

Shoot.

It's perfect.

- Option to disable swear filter
- Option to change large avatars without needing to request mod approval
- Notifications for post quotes
- No approval needed for journal entries
- Annual mod elections
- More inbox space

- Google won't allow it.
- No. Avatars are large enough. Plus it needs approval or else you guys would post dicks so fast.
- You have an option for email notifications in your user CP. I do prefer pop up notifications though.
- I'm okay with this.
- Hahahahaha bye Frown
- I'm ok with this too

Thanks for the reply and your thoughts. Nice to see some of what I suggested could be considered.

We need to make contact with Yackie first though or else we can't do sh*t.

Frownland 08-15-2018 08:26 AM

Pay the mods.

Key 08-15-2018 08:26 AM

Not worth it. They don't make changes here.

I have a suggestion.... Dont block HTTP sessions guys!!

You can do that easily......... The SSL cert will stay here but yuo can also goto http://www.musicbanter.com and the site will stay http for the session......

There is NO REASON to force SSL on a site like this...... cellar.org has SSL but they dont block HTTP either.......

MicShazam 08-15-2018 02:00 PM

Why does that even matter?

The Batlord 08-15-2018 02:04 PM

Are you even asking why arbitrary things bother Dude111?

MicShazam 08-15-2018 02:08 PM

Yes. I'm wondering who peed in his chocolate milk.

Aux-In 08-15-2018 02:10 PM

He's old-school about virus protection.

2 improvements we can already make but dont:

-Don't let Dude post links to shady bull****.
-Stop posting in journals and make regular threads that don't need mod approval.

Dude111 08-15-2018 04:20 PM

I dont post anything to bad do I??

I just post fun games and such :)

The Batlord 08-15-2018 04:22 PM

Your fetish for old technology makes me wonder how you can access the modern internet on an IBM.

Or just keep the journal section since people like it.

I'm not sure if some of those are actual features that exist somewhere or something that would have to be programmed specifically here, coz any level of effort beyond a possible copy/paste isn't realistic.

The rest are just suggestions on how to run the place, which isn't really what I meant.

My suggestion for example would be to introduce likes and points to posts. I often read posts that I like but don't feel the need to respond to them, just to acknowledge the effort and input. Then somewhere below the username you could see how many positive points someone has etc. I've seen this feature in some other forums and I think it brings another dimension to the experience.

It would also be nice if it was connected to a notification system like on facebook, along with if someone quotes you.

Frownland 08-15-2018 06:28 PM

Not exactly the same as pop ups, but since you've been gone, we added email notifications.

Yes, you post random ass websites that can easily be viruses, malware, etc. Anyone who cares about their computers integrity wouldn't click the garbage you post.

I don't remember saying get rid of the journal sections. The second point was a direct response to complaints about needing mod approval for journal posts. No one is stopping you from making a "journal thread".

Key 08-15-2018 06:40 PM

Ah. So don't get rid of them. Just stop posting them. Gotcha.

And I'm just ****ing with you.

Well if youre going to complain about the rate at which our unpaid mods approve posts than yes :D Otherwise :drummer:

I'm just responding to your fuckery.

Key 08-15-2018 06:43 PM

I don't complain about that at all. It's just a bit silly that they sometimes go days without approval given how many mods we have. Otherwise i don't mind it tbh.

DwnWthVwls 08-15-2018 06:45 PM

Sounds like complaining to me :D

Key 08-15-2018 06:46 PM

Yeah not the same, don't wanna get spammed by e-mails (also, didn't that exist always?), just wanna know, when I'm here, if something happened relevant to my posts.
