I don't know it was some $200 Roku thing two years ago. But the TV I had for years before that was some random late model CRT thing whose buttons and remote **** the bed after not too long and I just dealt with it.

I mean just assuming that the latest technology that you bought represents the entirety of what you can buy is just a dumb guy thing. I mean maybe you just happened upon something that sucks. Maybe your experience is meaningless.

Yeah it's possible my experience is totally anecdotal in regards to its meaningfulness or predictability for other brands of SmartTVs - but after doing research, the problem I have is apparently widespread among Samsung SmartTVs of the time - and there's no real solution for it. The fact that this thing has the ability to get software updates and the issue still hasn't been fixed just pisses me off. It's like, what's the point of even having software updates? If the problem is so big and convoluted that it's not worth it to a giant company like Samsung to put in the resources to fix it, then someone in their development/q&a team needs a punch in the face.

I've had an old Vizio plasma TV since around 2007 and it's still just fine. No issues. If I use an Amazon firestick or a Playstation to stream stuff, and I connect it to a Dumb 4K tv (which do exist), I have this feeling (and I guess that's all it is) I'll have better luck.

So don't buy Samsung?

Frownland 11-10-2021 09:21 PM

You probably just bought the only functional smart tv, batlord.

Trollheart 11-11-2021 04:37 AM

Maybe his TV is just too smart. Doesn't feel like working, so doesn't. Beware Skynet...

SGR 11-11-2021 07:24 AM

If there's one thing I'm absolutely sure of: it's that my TV is definitely not too smart. I've lived with these issues for over a year now because the volume is stuck at a decently okay level and I have ways to work around the issues. I kinda want it to just die and give my cheap ass a reason to replace it.

To add another wrinkle to the story of my wizened SmartTV - I have a friend who's had similar, but not identical issues with his SmartTVs. They weren't Samsungs - I know one was a Vizio but don't remember the other brand (some cheap Walmart brand, so that one was probably a given).

The ability to get software updates introduces at once the possibility to fix unexpected problems, but also the possibility to introduce entirely new ones. If I do end up getting another SmartTV, I'll probably either get a cheap Roku one (like you mentioned Bat), or I'll get an LG (I've heard good things about the brand).

If not, I'm sticking with a troglodyte TV that can display in 4K but can't connect to the internet.

Despite my reservations with these things, I do look forward to Smart toilets that, as soon I put the seat down to position myself to start pinching a loaf, will project an image on the wall in front of me and start playing whatever was queued up in my "Watch later" playlist on my Youtube account - that'll be the day. Plus, of course, it will have heated seats that will automatically adjust the temperature based on the estimated BMI of the person sitting on them to optimize efficiency in loosening up the bowels.

The Batlord 11-11-2021 08:14 AM

I want it to project an image of my butthole in real time.

SGR 11-11-2021 08:46 AM

Good idea! But then, it'd need a waterproof camera embedded near the bottom of the toilet bowl. Might need to clean off some skid marks occasionally, but not too big of a deal. Same thing as having a backup camera in your car during the winter.

The Batlord 11-11-2021 09:48 AM

Cause homeless people keep ****ting on your car?

SGR 11-11-2021 10:12 AM

Nah thankfully my car doesn't have a backup camera for them to **** on
