The Mobile/Cell Phone Thread

Hell, if we can have a thread for keys we can have one for humanity's greatest asset and friend! Post here about your mobile (or, if you prefer, cell) phone - what have you got, what is your favourite app on it, what's its memory, what makes/networks do you prefer, what phones have you had before, how has the mobile/cell phone changed over your lifetime, do you remember a time before them etc etc.

Basically, just nerd out about your phone. Post pictures if you want. The old saying was never so true as in the 21st century: you're never alone with a phone.

Sounds like someone is bored

Trollheart 11-13-2021 09:20 AM

Yeah, I'm far from bored. I have multiple projects on and at the moment am working on entries for the return of The History of Prog Rock next year. Just trying to keep this place interesting. A thankless task, most would say. They'd be right.

The Batlord 11-13-2021 01:53 PM

Bro you got hobbies not projects.

Trollheart 11-13-2021 02:06 PM

Just because you live in the Projects...

Trollheart 11-13-2021 02:10 PM

Project (n.) "planned scheme to do or examine something over a period."

The Batlord 11-13-2021 02:45 PM

So you gonna jack off on a chick's bleeding pussy?

How about some questions in a familiar format...

The Cell Phone 5-Pack:

What brand/model is your phone?

Galaxy A20.

Why did you purchase the phone you have?

It was cheap.

Pro's?

None

Cons?

The camera sucks.

Thoughts or other comments on it:

It has a micro slot so I could reuse my 250GB micro card and not have to worry about storage issues, but that has nothing to do with the actual phone quality other than it has a slot.

I've also dropped it a few times so the screens shattered at the bottom. It also has a nice long crack up the side. Not trading it in until it's absolutely ****ing dead.

Trollheart 11-15-2021 01:16 PM

What brand/model is your phone?

Galaxy S10.

Why did you purchase the phone you have?

Got it as an upgrade, and wangled it for free when it should have been about 120 Euro. Also I've used Samsung Galaxies for a few years now. I was actually looking for another one but they were out of stock so they did this deal with me rather than have me go to another network.

Pro's?

Reliable, basically the same as my previous one (S9) but has 120 GB inbuilt memory which means no need for cards.

Cons?

None that I've noticed so far.

Thoughts or other comments on it:
I see no need at the moment to move from Samsung. They seem to know what they're doing and their phones have not given me any issues over the years. As a special bonus, you can actually make calls on this one!

Plankton 11-15-2021 01:39 PM

I had a TracFone burner for a year or so until I got a Blackberry in around 2008, but up to that point it was all land lines. I had that BB for years, but I smacked it off of a table with my guitar headstock while getting a bit animated and the track ball busted off it's housing. It's been cheap-o POS's from then on.

Plankton 03-15-2022 12:12 PM

My old Samsung A20 finally bit the dust, so I snagged a Samsung A32 5G. I can finally scan QR codes. Yay.

It's the little things.

Also, I kept inputting an extra F on the MEI code (it was on the packaging like that!) when I was setting it up, so syncing and restoring all my apps and data from my A20 to the new one was a bitch because I had already gummed it all up. All good now though. I'm just glad all of my Power Amp playlists were recovered. Those have been WIP's for a few years now and get used at certain annual events and leagues. Would have been an incredible pita to redo all of that.

Hey y'all,

It's finally time for me to buy a new phone now, I saw this thread and thought maybe i should ask u guys for some recommendations for a good phone.

I make music so I record some videos for instagram reels and stuff and the really old Motorola phone that I have right now has a trash camera and that combined with the really harsh compression that instagram puts the video through just really ruins the quality so, I was looking for some phones, not too expensive but the budget is flexible so you can just suggest some good phones, it would be really great and helpful.

Thank you!

Plankton 03-22-2022 05:36 PM

Nextel has some good ****. Command and Conquer!

Just got offered an upgrade and chose the Galaxy S22. Only cost me 29 Euro. Looking forward to playing around with it. Going from S10 to S22 should be quite interesting.

Plankton 05-09-2022 01:52 PM

That looks a decent phone. Congrats.

GD 05-09-2022 01:56 PM

I'm still using an iPhone 5 from about 2013 and it definitely shows in terms of battery life.
Been thinking about having the battery changed, though I should probably just buy some used phone a few years out of date.
Wouldn't it be sweet if I could get this phone to last me the full 10 years though? :D

mabres 03-19-2024 04:05 AM

I'm currently using Samsung A32 and I'm thinking about changing it. Should I switch to an iPhone? Or is it better to buy Samsung again?
