I'm actually reading a DC graphic novel right now: The Dark Knight Returns.

it's more of a "character" thing for me, always thought Bats, Supes, Green Lantern and the Flash and also Negative Man are more interesting than the Marvel stable, cept for maybe Wolverine and The Hulk

i have no bias against Marvel, though, but i only started reading in the 80s, only caught up with the early stuff vide reprints like Marvel Age and Marvel Tales (Spiderman)

My oldest friend is an absolute comic nut and has literally a whole room dedicated to Marvel and DC comics storage, he keeps most of the best comics safe in see through plastic bags, I'm sure you know the type:laughing: and he swears by Marvel and up until around the late 80s and early 90s DC just couldn't compete with Marvel. From what I've read of both uptil the late 70s, Marvel is in a different league quality wise, even though I do like a lot of the really old Batman stuff from the 30s and 40s.

Anybody who hasn't read stuff by Marvel in the 60s and 70s should do so, this really is the Golden Age of Marvel.

DC had a pretty bad spate in the 80s when their best-selling comic (Batman) sold worse than Marvel's least-selling comic (Shang-Chi)

but I think they've caught up since then, with sterling stories

Hell I didn't know you guys were Marvel fans:) In 2009 I started reading nearly all of the main Marvels titles from the early to mids 60s onwards and starting off with the oldest titles such as Fantastic Four and Thor etc, two years later and I'm upto the late 70s.:)

At this rate given the huge title expansion that Marvel underwent in the 80s and 90s, I should be upto date in around 10 years time:laughing:

I've always been more of a DC fan myself. Batman and Swamp Thing are my favorites.

Don't you mean Master of Kung Fu, which was one of the best comics ever written, Shang-Chi was the name of the main character.

Seems like I'm the only true Marvel believer on here:laughing: I'm also a huge Batman fan and have a load of those to read as well. Batman probably has the best array of villains of any super heroe character, only Spiderman can match him.

its full name was Shang Chi : Master of Kung Fu, i believe

i loved it as well

but that one, along with Moon Knight (another great title) was Marvel's worst-selling in the 80s

Life of Pi

So far I'm loving the interplay of different religions. It's kind of odd to be reading a fictional narrative from the perspective of a Muslim-Hindu-Christian immediately after reading God Is Not Great (a clearly anti-theist diatribe against all religion) and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch (a sci-fi tale that delves deeply into the ideas of spirituality)
