If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for it? Action Comics #1 going for like half a million sent the comics industry into a speculation death spiral back in the 80s/90s and I'm curious what even niche comics from that era go for.

A had a few Classics Illustrated comics when I was a kid. Probably reproductions but I still wish I had them now.

A CGC graded 4.0 copy is listed for $100 right now on eBay, and there's an ungraded good condition copy of the same vintage listed for $85. A few copies have slipped under the radar and sold for significantly less. I paid $12 for an original golden age comic. I think I made out well. I've had a few other comic rarities in my hands. I only have ancient digital pics so sorry these are poor quality, but I hit up an antique junk shop and the owner showed me his graded Fantastic Four #1, Spider Man #1, and X-Men #1. In 2015 they were valued at $50,000. Not bad! https://i.imgur.com/SZnXSEYl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lvMOkcel.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cRD5paGl.jpg |
I don't know comics, but those look like amazing finds.

I picked up a second biography on the unparalleled Tom Waits at my favorite rare book shop. From my research it appears I've secured the two best titles examining one of the most cryptic and mythic figures in rock history. These titles are Innocent When You Dream: The Tom Waits Reader by Mac Montandon and Lowside of the Road: A Life of Tom Waits by Barney Hoskyns.
I'd previously walked into a tiny, overstuffed used bookshop just outside of NYC some years ago where I found Lowside as well as a biography on Sun Ra and one on Captain Beefheart, and I regret not grabbing all three, but money was tight at the time. Perhaps I'll reclaim them one day. Innocent When You Dream is a collection of interviews, album reviews, and conversations with people like Elvis Costello and Roberto Benigni. I'm really looking forward to exploring it. https://i.imgur.com/vVqq4LZl.jpg |

adidasss' post from a while ago reminded me that I wanted to read The Satanic Verses so I finallly did. Brilliant book, so intricately structured and layered, like the facets of a gem. Haven't been this impressed with a book in a while
