One of the best things written about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Three catastrophes, all marked by euphoria at the start and denial at the end, have shaped the Palestinian predicament. Has the fourth arrived, and is the same dynamic playing out?

Marie, this could be of interest to you (except you guys tend to be much smarter than us in the humanities so maybe this hasn't touched you at all)

The Professors and the Pogrom

eh plenty of physics and maths professors are startlingly mediocre people outside their direct field of work. I haven't discussed this with any of them and am not interested in their opinion, except for my supervisor who is fortunately a thoughtfully intelligent, nuanced, and civilised person. Also, we argue about transgenderism but I fully share your concern and disgust about this stuff

I read a Roddy Doyle short story a week ago. I liked the book.
Also on other authors;
1984 is my fave book.

A genuinely instructive book about resisting an oppressive system. His courage and intellect are inspiring

A fine book on the gradual expulsion of Jews from the Arab-Muslim world
