Almost agree. Everyone in the movie is so spot on. And the flick is well made on all levels. Some really creative camera and visual effect stuff.

I still think it's Alexander Payne's best film too.

Metropolitan
Having myself a bit of a Whit Stillman marathon because I had never seen any of his films before. Absolutely loved this one. The characters are oh so loathable yet very endearing at the same time. The true mark of a well developed character. The themes are explored beautifully too. I love films where people just sit around talking. I really like the idea that this movie is essentially a modern version of a lot of the books that the characters discuss. Very interesting idea. Acted beautifully from essential unknowns too. 9/10

Damsels In Distress
This one is great too. I love how it's essentially the same plot as Metropolitan. Greta Gerwig is one of the most likeable actresses going right now. Also loved how this film fits neatly into the kind of quirky indie film genre while also deconstructing and commenting on it. 7/10

The Ashes of Brush Flats

A friend of mine got free tickets to go see this locally filmed and produced movie and volunteered me to go with them. Fortunately I got a free curry out of the deal so I guess it worked out. I say that because me getting a free curry is the most exciting thing of this entirely generic movie. The script feels like it never got a second draft, there are some absolutely ridiculous plotholes, the acting can be incredibly incongruous and it's influences shine through so much that I end up just thinking of the scene/ movie it was obviously influenced by instead. Oh, and the production company, ISOPictures, stole their logo from Aperature Science.

Yeah... it was a damn good curry though!

If I can't identify/connect with the characters, the high level of pretension (in his stuff) sours me.

I think one you realise the characters are supposed to be somewhat insufferable and satirical it becomes enjoyable.

Anyway I just saw Birdman and it was a revelation. One of the most thought provoking, beautifully acted, and well shot films I have EVER seen. Seriously considering going back to the cinema later for a rewatch.
