I decided not to watch 2012, if I wanted a bad script smothered in special effects then I'd just watch his previous attempt at an end of the world flick A Day After Tomorrow. How come you decided to watch it? It seemed shit from the moment I heard about it.

I agree...unless you're in it solely for the effects and explosions and what not, it's a completely useless movie.

Speaking of useless movies, I've recently seen Sex in the City 2. OMG. I feel I need to purge my brain of that unholy abomination. The only thing I liked, and I mean the ONLY thing, was Liza Minelli singing "Single Ladies". Friggin' hilarious. She had the look alike backup dancers and the whole Beyonce choreography down. So damn funny.

^ I just love Barbra Streisand. Ryan O'neal was very good too. A very funny movie by Peter Bogdanovich.

^ It was kind of cute, a bit too melodramatic at times. I smiled all the way through the film, which is also good. It's a nice safe picture.

I grew up with cheesy 70's films such as Earthquake etc and will suspend disbelief as I know it's just a film and the creative people keep that on side. With Day After Tomorrow- it was OTT but you sort of cared for a character or two and it had an arc but 2012 was bloated beyond belief and I didn't give 2 craps who survived.

I like cheese and enjoy it but get it right please!

I can't stand the 70s cheesy stuff, so I try and avoid it. But the Day After Tomorrow when I was watching it I felt like it's so bad... it's good. But I couldn't be arsed with exactly the same thing with 2012. A little cheese is good here and there but the director Emmerich really is useless. He's done 3 or 4 bad end of the world things, but things like 2012 sell at the box office because a load of people that don't really know about films just go for the special effects which is annoying when smaller films don't do that well but are far better, despite lacking fancy special effects.

Was there no saving grace from 2012?

Made by one of our finest DJ's (Don Letts) it could be forgiven to be U.K biased but in fact it dedicates a huge running time to the American scene and remained unbiased. Pity about the last ten minutes but if you watch closely it was actually ridiculing the bands it featured.

I really did like it. The music is good throughout the movie. Fun references here and there. The director seems like he had fun in the making. It might seem all over place, that's cause it's so obviously a debut.

After IMDBing the movie, the director Marc Webb had only made 3 music documentaries, and a short before this first feature length fictional film. It all seems overcharged with everything a film-student usually likes to try in his first movie. That's why the un-perfection of the film, made it easier for us to identify with the characters. Specially in the 20s years, when all our decisions are known to have major impacts on the future, and when many failures are bound to present themselves along the way.
