What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

Definitely one of their best. Along with Blood Simple, Fargo and Lebowski.

Well, Miller's Crossing.. I think you'll thoroughly enjoy it. It's not that I disliked it, I just wouldn't watch it again. There's a lot of dialogue flying around, and a lot of names. I get really frustrated when films throw a load of names about in the first few minutes, I'm terrible with names in films. So that annoyed me, and it never stuck me as being particularly edgy, even when the film was reaching important moments, when they happened, they didn't strike me as being that shocking. Good film, but not one of their best. But that's just me, I'm sure you might feel totally different about it and love it. I don't want to go too much more into it without giving stuff away from the film.

And The Big Lebowski... Can anyone explain why that's deemed one of The Coens best? Again, don't get me wrong - I enjoyed it. But they've done 3 or 4 better films.

Fargo, No Country, The Man Who Wasn't There and Burn After Reading is on par with The Big Lebowski IMO.

I'm not sure why some people adore TBL, again don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable film. But not their best.

You do? I consider it kind of middle of the road Coen movie. It's good but it's kind of a typical mob movie lacking the little touches and quirkiness that make so many Coen brothers movies so great.

I thought Raising Arizona (actually my FAVORITE Coens film), O Brother, No Country and Barton Fink were better films than Lebowski. It's up there for me, but eh it is one of those films I get tired of everyone going on about all the time and quoting to death, even though "This is what happens when you f*ck a stranger in the ass" is probably my favorite movie quote ever.

Ok well, I like it more than others because it's incredibly intelligent and multilayered. It's a humanistic story at it's core, it's a wonderful homage to human beings and their Sisyphean struggle against the odds, it has an incredible collection of supporting characters (meticulously cast), some truly brilliant images (slow mo of the naked lady on the trampoline anyone? How's that for a punch in your aspiring filmmaker face), it's endlessly quotable, complex (how long did it take you to figure out "this aggression will not stand" was actually from a speech Bush made and is shown at the very beginning in the store?), brilliantly acted and written (only people who smoke pot can see the veracity of Bridges' performance). So yeah...

Yeah, pretty much my feeling on it when I watched it. Enjoyable.. but nothing spectacular.

The Big Lebowski is a top 5 Coen's film, but certainly not their best. I'm yet to see Raising Arizona but I've had it on DVD for a while now, I need to get round to watching it.

Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski along with Baron Fink are probably my favorite Coen brothers movies.

I have about 4 or 5 Coen Brothers films left before I've watched their whole discography, I have Raising Arizona and Barton Fink on DVD, but I'm yet to watch them. Is Barton Fink similar to A Serious Man? They strike me as similar films. I really need to get round to watching them. I have a few films I need to get round to watching
