Watchmen

I thought we already had a thread on this but uh yeah I'm stoked, kind of. I have a feeling it won't be very good at all. Lets hope I'm wrong.

Oh and My Chemical Romance is going to cover Bob Dylan for the movie so I'm fucking pissed about that.

simplephysics 07-24-2008 07:11 PM

Woah-hoee.
looks sexy.

ProggyMan 07-24-2008 07:22 PM

I was watching Batman and about 5 people said 'hell yes' really loudly and everyone else said 'wtf'?

Sparky 07-25-2008 12:45 PM

fun fact:

screen writer of this film is the voice of solid snake in the video game "metal gear solid"

not fun fact:

this movie is gonna suck, hard.

Laces Out Dan! 07-25-2008 06:49 PM

I think it could be pretty sick.

cardboard adolescent 07-25-2008 10:37 PM

considering how amazing the comic book is, it would be very easy to make something sub-par. but the trailer looks pretty decent. i'm keeping my hopes up.

sleepy jack 07-25-2008 10:39 PM

I'm worried it's going to be all orgasmic CGI and no poignant themes.

sweet_nothing 07-25-2008 10:50 PM

From the trailer the CGI doesnt look that great. =\

Inuzuka Skysword 07-26-2008 07:37 AM

Is the graphic novel really as good as they say? I really want to read it, but haven't got around to it.

cardboard adolescent 07-26-2008 12:45 PM

it's the best graphic novel i've ever read.

RoemerMW 08-13-2008 02:31 AM

The source material is brilliant, but chances are it's going to get ****ed up when it's adapted, especially since Zack Snyder is directing it.

completely agree.

Inuzuka Skysword 08-31-2008 09:48 AM

I just got around to reading the graphic novel and it was amazing. I don't think that you can really "translate" it onto a screen though. A lot will be missing and I am sure I will be disappointed.

Laces Out Dan! 08-31-2008 08:59 PM

This is what I'll do...ive been meaning to read it for a long time but haven't. So i'll see the movie so I have no expectations, and then I'll read it and find its a lot better and be happy twice.

Twisted Fish 09-02-2008 03:20 PM

Was really skeptical about this movie until I heard Snyder was making a black freighter animated sideplot to go on the dvd and his cut is 3 hours long. At least this shows he's giving the story the attention and detail it deserves its movie to have.

Scottsman 10-31-2008 11:03 AM

I hope this is good, I'll agree I'm also worried about the heavy CGI with little story. This guy did 300 right? That was flashy, but less substance. If it comes out that way it'll be a shame because the graphic novel was amazing.

Mr Sensitive 11-18-2008 12:39 PM

New trailer for those who haven't seen it yet.

Anteater 11-18-2008 04:24 PM

Lol. If Alan Moore isn't going to see it, why should anyone else? ;)

Son of JayJamJah 11-18-2008 08:24 PM

I strongly recommend anyone planning to see this, reads it first.

It's really good and it'd be a shame to let the movie ruin it if it sucks.

ProggyMan 11-18-2008 10:50 PM

Should be entertaining if nothing else.

RoemerMW 11-18-2008 11:55 PM

I know it's just a trailer, but I'm already disappointed with the approach they're taking to Nite-Owl and Laurie Juspeczyk. And does every godda*mn shot have to be in slow motion? I doubt any of the deeper meanings or subtlety of the book is going to translate to the film at all. It looks to be 300 again, only with superheroes! Only instead of making a mediocre adaption of a mediocre graphic novel, it will be a mediocre adaption of my favorite graphic novel. Enough ranting now, I guess my fanboyism for Watchmen and my irrational hatred for everything touched by Zack Snyder is a tad bit too strong.

cardboard adolescent 11-19-2008 12:50 AM

when i was bitching about v for vendetta people told me you have to judge re-makes on their own rights, not relative to the work they're adapting. but that's bs. if you're adapting something, you should probably understand it, especially thematically. furthermore, if there's already a lot in the original to work with, you have even fewer excuses for messing it up. and finally, if you want to "make it your own" and say to hell with anything the original author had in mind, then why adapt it in the first place? that's just stupid. oh wait, maybe it's because you can just leech of the fame of something that already exists. i guess that's not stupid (just despicable).

MURDER JUNKIE 11-19-2008 09:59 AM

I just saw the new Star Trek trailer: I'm appalled

Veronica Lodge 11-19-2008 10:06 AM

Watchmen is single handedly the BEST graphic novel written. Ever.

They have been trying to make this film for close to a decade now, and it's awesome that someone is finally doing it.

However, I read something about Warner Bros vs Fox, and the potential that it might not be released. Has this been cleared yet?

I believe it has. Something about trading the 60s Batman television show rights for the Watchmen rights. Maybe not.

The movie is looking alright, but it makes me uncomfortable that they changed the ending. To me, it makes no sense now.

Oh, and they're also making a video game based on the movie.

Alan Moore must be drilling a hole through his head.

spark10036 11-19-2008 05:45 PM

anyone who hasn't read the book will not get it...

anw I'm sure they will leave a lot of stuff out. and how are they going to make obvious that some of them were g#y,which is not mentioned during the story, but in the articles. what about that awesome pirate comic book? are they going to add all that mr Manhattan back-story? it would have to be 4 hours long...I'm going to hate it!

Anteater 11-19-2008 09:18 PM

Well, there is no way in Hell that Snyder's adaption of Watchmen is straight up from the pages anyway; a lot of sh1t's going to be cut in order to keep the running time within manageable parameters.

AKA, no pirate comic book (though we might see it on screen in passing or something). :(

Well said sir. Though I don't read many graphic novels myself, I just couldn't put it down.

As for however good or bad this movie turns out to be, fingers crossed eh

Veronica Lodge 11-20-2008 08:11 AM

Apparently, it's gonna be straight up "Who murdered the Comedian" with little background story. Doubtful of any Silk Spectre back stories, none of the articles, and no pirate story.

Which kinda blows, because if it were just a straight up Who Killed Who story, that novel would blow.

However, I'm really interested in seeing the characters "come to life", especially Rorschach.

anticipation 11-20-2008 08:20 AM

we have the book, what does it matter if the movie sucks?

boo hoo, so the movie is not philosophically deep, so the movie doesn't include every fucking little thing in Watchmen. If you think that any of those directors gives a shit about your view of the novel, then you're wrong. They're out to profit off of the millions of people like us who regard the original as one of the greatest works of literature ever written, and would pay to see it even if whoopi goldberg was in it. Accept that fact and take the movie at face value.

cardboard adolescent 11-20-2008 11:55 AM

i reserve the right to be indignant

I don't like the voices of Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan, and it look likes it's being changed up just by the trailers. Watchmen itself was laid out like a movie, so I don't understand why they'd switch it up so much. And loss of the squid? While the squid seems crazy and unnecessary, it makes the whole unity thing happen. Hopefully they'll keep the very end ending too. Hell, they should keep it exact, in my opinion, but eh. I guess that wouldn't be very original.
Yeah, that's my opinion on all this. And the Graphic Novel was super awesome cool sexy.
