South Park is in the midst of another dominant season after falling off a bit in 2008.

I think this season is pretty terrible.

I'd say it's a little disappointing also. Just a little.

I used to love King of the Hill, then I started to hate it, but since its been showing on Adult Swim Ive started to enjoy it again. It shits all over Family Guy thats for sure.

...what? There has never been a moment watching that show where I've had to think about anything. It was neither hard to comprehend nor challenging to my ideas about life.

Compare that to Family Guy and instantly you'll see my point of view. King of the Hill relies heavily on character interactions, from the surface it may appear to be redneck and accent jokes, but once you know these characters motives you'll be drawn into a whole new set of humour.

Family Guy isn't the only other cartoon on TV.

Speaking of popularity, has anyone been paying attention to The Simpsons lately? After a long while with no good episodes, we're finally getting some good ones. They feel like the mid-90's ones with richer colors.

I know what you mean, I've been liking that show alot more lately. Its a show where the characters themselves are funny, not the jokes.

I saw one episode last night and was pleasantly suprised.

I run into this all the time, and as a big fan of both shows I can say that it is certainly not the case.

The Simpsons began airing as animation shorts on the Tracey Ullman show in 1985- 2 yrs before they got their own series. Matt Groenig and James Brooks began pre-production around 1983.

It's funny to watch those shorts and then watch an episode today. Oh how they've changed.

Aside from having the same basic premise they were entirely different shows and like Satchmo said The Simpsons does predate MWC if you want to get technical about it.

South Park, easily

It was a bit of a Simpsons clone at first, the basic premise is obviously the same, btut to be fair it's a premise that predates The Simpsons and goes all the way back to The Jetsons and The Flinstones.

Family Guy over the years has become much more of it's own show, for better or for worse. It's style of humor is quite different from The Simpsons.

Simpsons is a more satirical show where the episodes actually have some kind of point to make plus it's a show that is accessible to anyone.

Family Guy of course started the whole trend of super random humor and pop culture references that come out of nowhere, which is imitated (poorly) in a lot of stuff these days. Also, it's a much cruder and vicious show and relies much more on shock humor. and so it has a more niche appeal than The Simpsons does, I'm kinda surprised Family Guy ever got as popular as it did.

It's got fast moving plots and little time between jokes, so if something doesn't work it just moves ahead full force into the next bit. I think thats why its popularity really shot up, that and very persistant syndication... I could probably turn on the tele right now and flip through channels until I found an episode.
