For me:
Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace

I always found the expanded universe more interesting than the movies tbh

Almost the exact same for me except flip-flop A New Hope with Attack of the Clones.

Yeah I gotta agree on that.

Yeah, I don't actually dislike Star Wars, there definitely is a current of self awareness underneath the cheesiness which I can appreciate and suspend my disbelief. I just couldn't understand how such an ordinary concept gained such a fanatical mass following.

In that order.

Completely agree, except for Attack of the Clones was my least favorite. I prefer the little kid and cutesy approach of Phantom Menace to the sh*tty computerized action sequences and horrible acting skills of Attack of the Clones.

Because of the way it was executed, obviously.

Star Wars was never actually anticipated to be a box office success. Science fiction films were considered dead at that point, the film was turned down by several different studios before Fox picked it up, and even then the first film was made on a relatively small budget.

I loved the action sequences in AotC, particuraly the showdown with Jango Fett and the final battle scenes. The dialogue and acting was pretty dull, but not as cringeworthy as Anakin and Jar Jars scenes from Phantom Menace.

Overall, I did like the new films despite their flaws, but they obviously don't touch the original trilogy. Except I think Revenge of the Sifth was easly the best out of the 3 and was almost as good as Return of the Jedi.

And then what do they do? They turn him into an annoying brat in episode 1, an emo pussy in episode 2, and a c0cky punk in episode 3. At least he started getting badass in episode 3. That fight with Obi Wan was pretty sweet.

You know, I'll be honest. I thought the prequels were great as backstory films, explaining everything we wanted to know, though sometimes they explained too much (seriously, the force is just some particles in your bloodstream?) and while I thought the stories overall were good. What kept the films from being great was the poor miscast acting from Christensen and Portman, and the fact that the trilogy focused way too much on their relationship, putting that and Jar Jar aside though, I still think they were decent films.

I've read most of the expanded universe books and they explain a lot more of the backstory and the details of the force etc.

Yeh, the only problem is there are so many different authors that the writing is inconsistent. They're all good writers, just too many of them.

The first three are much better, but the lightsaber duels are, sadly, rendered obsolete.

It became a big deal because it wasn't an ordinary concept at the time. And it influenced so many movies that now, looking back, it seems more ordinary.

Check out the this review that Roger Ebert wrote of the first Star Wars movie back in 1977, I think it does a great job of showing exactly why it struck such a chord with people back then.

Fruitonica 12-06-2008 04:45 AM

Yeah it does, thanks for that.

Alpha Centauri 12-06-2008 11:26 AM

empire strikes back and a new hope would be my main faves.
the phantom menace may be third.

sweet_nothing 12-06-2008 02:55 PM

I think Knights of the Old Republic should of been made into a movie that game was amazing and the story was just as good if not better than the movies.

Tomorrow 12-07-2008 08:35 PM

I actually had a nerdy in-depth Star Wars conversation with a friend the other day. I decided Vader is the greatest villain ever.

Too bad the greatest villain ever wouldn't have gone soft in the end <_<

Alpha Centauri 12-07-2008 09:07 PM

I second this. That plot twist where you find out that you are actually Revan may have been the most amazing thing ever.

Mr Sensitive 12-09-2008 11:46 AM

Yeah, you might have just spoiled the game there for some people.

However, KOTOR rocks my socks and it would make a good movie as long as Lucas isn't involved.

boo boo 12-09-2008 11:56 AM

What hurt the new films was the writing, not the directing, if Lucas let someone else write the screenplay, but he produced and directed it, it would be fine.

Also, the acting was pretty damn bad. And I will never get over the powerpoint-esque transition effects.

Alpha Centauri 12-09-2008 09:59 PM

Lucas is a writers whore.
Never thoought I would ever get the chance to type that.

Lol

I'm tempted to start a new game on it now... the question is: Light or Dark Side?

pianokeys 12-11-2008 12:28 AM

Not sure about my favourite character just yet but C-3P0 is definitely the most annoying character.

Alpha Centauri 12-11-2008 01:05 PM

what about Jar Jar?
He talka' like an idiot.

Dark side, because you get two Krayt Dragon pearls.

Well Christensen is pretty bad, Portman is really dull in these movies too, which is a shame because I really like her and though she's not a great actress, I think she can be good, just not in these films, at all.

McGregor though is a really good actor, he was great in Transpotting, and I thought he did a reasonably great job as Obi-Wan, he's no Alec Guiness, but he does a good job at making you think he is.

Ewan at least, was a good casting choice, if they got better actors for Anakin and Padme and killed Jar Jar off like, 5 seconds in, it would have been a huge improvement.

You see, I like Light Side because HEAL is so overpowered that the affinity boost you get from that makes you unbeatable. I'm totally starting a new game on this once winter break starts.

Alpha Centauri 12-11-2008 09:16 PM

What was the colored horned jedi girl?
Not, "what" but more specifically actress wise....

^ And that's why Ackbar is in the poll.

None of these choices are "sarcastic", not even Wedge, sure the guy had like 5 lines, but he did play a big role in the defeat of the empire, he even has a whole series of books about him, and he was the main character in the Rogue Squadron video games, so the guy has his fans.

Hopefully someone didnt put it up.

khfreek 12-17-2008 02:58 PM

LoathsomePete 05-19-2009 04:34 PM

Obi-Wan was always my favorite (and not just because Sir Alec Guinness is one of my favorite actors). I felt his character was the most sympathetic who was good natured, calm, collect, and soft spoken. He's the type of guy I'd want to teach me how to be a Jedi, Anakin was a whiny douche who took him for granted.

sweet_nothing 05-20-2009 01:05 AM

Yeh looking back I shouldve of voted for Obi-Wan instead of Yoda, but I have to admit I prefer Ewan McGregor's portrayal of the character. I still don’t see what the big deal with Darth Vader is I never thought he was very cool, he seems very slow and he has bad asthma.
