Terminator Salvation

If your a child of the 80's chances are that you were a big Terminator fan (I still am, my son is named after the hero) so now we are up to the fourth installment.

Plus points:

It's got the history and back story to genuinely further the story.
It stars Christian Bale

Minus Points:

It's directed by McG (Charlie's Angels)
Flogging a dead horse.

The trailer is up and has'nt exactly blown me away but I will still have to check it out:

Terminator Salvation - International Trailer, Worldwide Release Dates

One of the best things of the first two Terminator movies was this future war that we never saw, plus the brief glimpse of the first attacks. That to me was better in my head, not touched upon, an impending doom.

I'm really not thrilled with the prospect of a movie about all this. Bale has gone down in my estimation for even agreeing to do a movie like this. As you said, a poor director as well, I bet the script is pretty dire too.

I prefer the cat-and-mouse of the first two to the *insert generic near future war here* kind of movie.

jackhammer 12-10-2008 09:29 AM

You are probably right but I will give it the benefit of my doubt and of course-my hard earned cash.

Recently I decided to watch the third one again after hating it originally and i was surprised at how good it was.

Not to mention The O.C >_<

I'll still watch the movies, just to see if they made Terminator 3 make any sense.

Janszoon 12-10-2008 10:28 AM

I'm of the unpopular opinion that T3 was better than T2 and I like Christian Bale so I'm looking forward to this one. Nothing will ever top the first one for me though.

RoemerMW 12-10-2008 09:02 PM

I really only liked the first one, it was a damn good action/thriller movie. I'm not a huge fan with either of the sequels, and I never really understood the huge love for Terminator 2 that everyone seems to have.

However, I really like the flash poster they did for Terminator Salvation. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's interesting.

I agree with that, but that formula got real tired out on the third movie. You can only go with the "send a cyborg back in time to kill a person" story so many times before it gets tired (not to mention the many plot holes that develop when trying to do time traveling stories).

The third movie basically said that the war was inevitable, so if they were going to continue with this movie franchise, then actually fast-forwarding to this future war makes sense. Of course, doing a sci-fi war movie will probably lead to lots of action and little plot.

Looks oddly interesting though to me the series never stuck.

Merged. More appropriate thread.

I much prefer the first one as it was a very effective and interesting thriller, by far one of the best of it's kind. I still like the second one, but to a much lesser extent than the first one. And to answer the four reasons you listed,

I really don't care about this in the slightest. I have no interest in the world/setting/etc that any film/book/etc. takes place in, what matter to me is the film itself. I only care about seeing another side of a character if it adds something to it, and seeing Arold as a good guy really does nothing for me.

Whoopty-****ing-Doo, humor. The first Terminator movie was excellent as it was, without any humor, and I honestly think that a lot of the humor in T2 made detracted from the film.

If it manages to suspend my disbelief, then I have no problem with inferior special effects.

Saw the movie last week. I was impressed, they did a great job of tying in with the story of old. Terminator with todays effects is awesome.

Mordecai 05-27-2009 07:05 AM

meh.....that's all I can say

Christian Bale should have been picked as John Connor....he ruined it for me

Plus....Connor is supposed to be the main character.....BUT HE HARDLY DID ANYTHING
it was all focused on that Marcus dude

Moon Bloodgood is hot!....she made it enjoyable

TheBig3 05-27-2009 08:01 AM

yeah this movie was pretty god awful, it looked more like an episode of a television show than it did a movie.

anticipation 05-27-2009 02:41 PM

it was basically just a special effects fest with wooden dialogue and sub-par acting, and on top of that it made absolutely no sense whatsoever if you didn't take the 8 hours to watch the previous movies.

they explained everything in the opening credits....they did a little wrap up for people that haven't seen the previous films so I don't know what you are talking about. I can't believe you go to see a terminator movie for the acting? They aren't hoping to win an oscar for their performance...it's a summer blockbuster.

Well I hope you were successful. I personally liked the movie, and I, also went to get my d s'd.

Sodacake 06-05-2009 10:36 AM

WHat I don't like about the movie is McG's style. Just not a fan at all. Also I don't like being shown the war. It just seemed like an action movie with robots rather than a true Terminator film.
