Must Every Movie and TV Show Be Remade?
 

Friday the 13th, My Bloody Valentine, Star Trek(a re-imagineing...but still)...I also read they are remaking The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.

I like some remakes or re-imagineings and some are terrible wastes of time and money...what are your thoughts...and while we are at it what movies and TV shows should be remade?

I want a live action move of The Land Before Time. NOW!

The reason why they remake movies/tv shows all the time is not for the lack of new ideas, but because they have brand recognition.

That's the hardest thing to get is notice-- when you have someone/something with name recognition, then you're halfway there-- at least people will look.

This is why you'll find spider-man on EVERYTHING from toothbrushes to basketballs.

The reason is that Hollywood are unwilling to put their faith in relatively unknown film makers and writers. There is so much great cinema in Asia that Hollywood even tried to remake their films...and failed miserably.

The amount of re-makes, comic book movies, and sequels/prequels/threequels, is ridiculous.

The Departed was a good movie.

Anyway, the new Friday the 13th looks good. It's basic.

Maybe there are some movies that just don't transfer culturally and that is why a lot of the Japemese remakes are creepy at times yet lame...I highly anticipate the new Friday the 13th as well...but the Karate Kid was is sacred to me because it was so 80s and reminds me of my childhood so much...I just hope that remakes are more companions than replacements.

How old is Jaden Smith anyway? 10?

It's very bloated and amalgamates parts 2 and three. The original Infernal Affairs is tight and brilliantly executed.

there are a bunch of webpages with lists of comic book movie adaptations currently in development, like hundreds of them. And we've got the upcoming Hobbit movie(s) to 'look forward' to, I'm sure the Tolkien cash cow is going to be milked for many years to come. I'll admit to having enjoyed a number of these brain-dead jaw-dropping FX-fests, Transformers had some B-movie charm and looked fantastic.

edit: could we also include the recent slew of musician biopics as unimaginative/occasionally apocryphal remakes? Ray, Walk the Line, the TERRIBLE-looking Notorious and coming to a theatre near you the Iggy Pop biopic with Elijah Wood as the leathery one.
