This is truly magic. Enjoying it even more this time round.

Kartoffelbrei 03-10-2014 01:27 PM

haven't watched TV in 5 years :/
wonder if it got more annoying..
I usually just watch cartoons on dvd

Goofle 03-10-2014 01:29 PM

Aww that's a shame for you. TV has been amazing for quite a while.

dunno. i'd watch it if the series displayed were in original language,
but usually they're german dubs, which i just can't watch.
so i don't want to watch what i usually watch in the WRONG language
with commercials inbetween.

Goofle 03-10-2014 01:41 PM

You don't have to watch television on the television.

I hardly watch tv on an actual TV anymore.

Still burning through HIMYM, 3 seasons in now. Thinking about checking out Justified.

Also watched the Bo Burnham special on Netflix the other day. Really didn't like it. It was way to all over the place. Kind of seemed like I was watching someone lose their mind on stage.

I think you meant to say that this thread includes shows on Netflix or something, and not just on the television.

Goofle 03-10-2014 05:12 PM

I'm saying you can watch TV Shows online, or even on DVD.

True Detective is brilliant.

That's also my favourite scene. I love how far Jeremy will go to have sex with someone. While series' 1 and 2 have that perfect mixture of dark comedy, insight, and drama on a shoestring budget, I think series 4 is the best.

Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle - Series 3

This man is my man. I absolutely love everything he has done from Fist of Fun, This Morning With Richard Not Judy all the way through to Carpet Remnant World. And the new series is fantastic.

EDIT: I don't even care. Reverse self-justification.

I like the new season. One of the things I really liked about that show in its early days is that, structurally at least, I thought it was really well written. Constantly ****ing with timelines, darting in and out of multiple storylines and going off on tangents. Slowly building a story and gradually building to a finale with very minor details dropped in here and there throughout its run.

Thats what I like about the new season. It's as if it finally got back on track after outstaying its welcome with a few mundane years. It was like the first four seasons seemed to be precise and focused, and then the creators and/or the network recognised it's potential as a cash cow and so dragged it out needlessly with another three to four seasons, and now they are focused again on the story as it was intended nine years ago.

The point is. He tells his children this bloody story for 9 years?
Or is it 9 seasons of aprox. 22 episodes of aprox. 22 minutes,
which gets me to the conclusion that they sit there for 4356 hours,
and I don't know if he ever stops talking - it might actually be one big session of him talking (maybe THAT'S why his voice changes, when he gets older, he talks too much. did he ever tell anyone else that story? you should never ask this guy on a dinner table how he met his wife).
4356 hours are 181 days, without sleep, so his kids miss about half a year of school, because their dad is telling a short story. If you compute, that they don't miss out on school, and sleep about 8 hours a day. school lasts from 8am - 1 pm (at least in germany) + aprox. 1 hour, for the way to and from school. which means we have 14 hours that get deleted of every day. plus they have to eat..3 times a day. which takes..let's say 2 hours, for every day, which gives him 8 hours a day to tell them his story, which makes it 544 days of telling his story. that's 1,5 years, dude...of telling a story...with NOTHING else. No spending time with friends, no playing computer or console games, no exploring your sexuality through watching hours of porn on the internet, ... I mean I like that show, but those kids get kinda traumatized.

I started watching brooklyn 99 on Fox and it is really funny. I didn't think I would like it (i watched it on accident) but its starting to become one of my favorite shows. Anyone else watch it?

Basit316 03-17-2014 12:09 PM

I'm watching Community, Episodes, Leverage and Suits these days

Yeah, I keep up with it. I feel like not many people watch it but it's a critics darling and won some awards so it will have another season or two before they cancel it.

I really think they crammed too much into it and maybe I'm a bit used to have cliffhanger type endings to seasons but it felt a bit rushed.

Yeah, the last scene in the wheelchair with them looking at the stars was nice.

Plankton 03-18-2014 09:19 AM

I checked out Cosmos the other night.

COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey

I understand how it's targeted for children (even the time slot is set for a 'before bedtime' type of thing. *shrug* It's that Dad instinct in me that tells me this), and maybe once in a while they'll toss out a nugget for the adults, but putting aside the 'meh' factor it really stuck with me and got me thinking about a few things that have been sitting in the corner of my brain for a while. Like the fact that trees/plants process sugars in the same manner as humans/animals. Interesting stuff.

debaserr 03-18-2014 09:21 AM

Watching the pilot of that convinced me to watch the original.

They managed to make these awesome topics quite boring.

You guys see the latest Rick & Morty? This show is amazing (Rixty Minutes).

You don't feel like Niel does Carl justice?

Thanks for that link btw. I saw the first episode but missed the second one. Recorded it but low DVR space ended up getting recorded over with Walking Dead I believe.

He hasn't grown on me yet, but give it time. It's only been 2 episodes.

Familiarity will usually win out with me anyway unless something *clicks* with the new and improved version of anything.

Besides, the best part about watching Carl, was listening to his pronunciation of the English language.

I'm digging Cosmos. The sheer fact that he's willing to say that evolution is a fact on network television makes me love Tyson. I seem to remember a subtle dig about creationism at some point too. Made my atheist tear ducts operate.

That's a given if you're a fan of this version or the original.

Yes, but it's sad how controversial a thing to say that's becoming in public. As in pop culture public. It's nice to see evolution being treated as fact rather than pretending there's more controversy than there actually is just to pacify the crackpots and the ignorant. So many legitimate documentaries do that with all kinds of topics that touch in any way on religion. As if saying facts is somehow wrong if it might challenge some religious nut's silly views.

I don't know if it'll move you enough for a username chance, but if you find it's the kind of world you can get lost in then it can prove addictive. The world is much bigger than it is in the show too, so you watch the show and then you have the books, and even trawling through the Wiki's and websites etc.

My mate has been telling me to watch this for ages. I finally got round to it and I'm enjoying it a lot. I had seen a couple of films with Danny McBride in over the years but not really anything I remembered him in, or even remembered the film all that well. Nothing I particularly enjoyed. Then I watched Pineapple Express and This is the End and I enjoyed those. I feel I know him much better after this though. This seems to be his stage.

Yeah did you hear about some station in Oklahoma cutting off part of the show like the last five mins of the pilot?

You can do like I'm doing and watch two episodes a night and you'll be done in time for the season premiere that's coming up.

There are a few factors in that phenomenon. One being fear, and the other being money which is also a form of fear in which one believes they won't have enough so they change their perspective to suit their means. Sociology at it's most primitive point.

Kinda sad really... oh wait... you said it was sad already. I guess we're both disappointed.

the NCAA tournament.

lol.

Been keeping up with Broad City and its been consistently funny. Hannibal Burress is always lights out on it, really glad hes getting his own show.

Also been watching the new season of Community which has been excellent and is back on point.

aand on the 5th season of How I Met Your Mother now and I still dig it.I totally agree with Pedestrian about what she said about the characters. They're all so quirky and have their own charm to them. Ill go whole episodes without much more laughter than a chuckle but I still enjoy it because of the cast.

I had a few friends a while back that didn't believe in evolution. I remember having some random conversation with them that somehow or other involved evolution and I was making some point and I just asked off handedly if they believed in evolution, of course assuming they would, and I was kind of floored when they told me they didn't. How can you live in 2014 and not believe in evolution?

The Boondocks is going to be back in April, so I'm watching all the episodes again. I hear that McGruder isn't going to be involved in the fourth season, I wonder how that'll turn out.

LoathsomePete 03-23-2014 10:04 AM

Yeah I just read a news report about the new season of The Boondocks. I'm a little concerned but I'll still give it a go. Kind of sad it's the final season though...

Ja it is a bit concerning, but I'm going to approach it with an open mind. Hopefully they don't ruin the legacy of the show with a bad or mediocre season.

Elementary

Started watching this last night with my roommates and I was pretty impressed. Some good writing, good characters, and a good dynamic between Holmes and Watson. I don't know if it's better than BBC's Sherlock, but it does have far less ego boosting for Sherlock. In Elementary, when Holmes' ego starts getting too big, Watson is there to put a pin in it. Definitely would recommend this if you were after something new.

Chozen

I kept on seeing adverts for this after Archer and I was pretty impressed. In terms of urban comedies, it's not quite got the same wit as The Boondocks, but there's a lot of laugh out loud moments and quotable lines.
