Meaningless awards are meaningless. Are we going to have a repeat of the Grammys thread and have everyone moan that 'so-and-so' didn't win what they should have won?

I'm sorry to say that I despise the Oscars and generally don't watch the films that are nominated. heath ledger will get the oscar but if he was alive he wouldn't- plain and simple. Sycophantic tossers.

This is the worst year for the Oscars by far. The nominations are absolutely ridiculous and Hugh Jackman as the host is kind of pathetic. Since when do people care about Hugh Jackman?

Anyways, here's my predictions.

Actor in Leading Role:
I pick Mickey Rourke but I think Sean Penn will take it. Although I really think Leo Di Caprio had the best performance of the year.

Actress in Leading Role: (by the way Winslet is nominated for The Reader not Revolutionary Road)
I pick Melissa Leo but I think Winslet will win (although she was much better in Revolutionary than the Reader).

Actor in Supporting Role:
I pick Hoffman but the Academy will pick Ledger. Any other year I think Hoffman would take it hands down though (as in if Ledger was still alive).

Actress in Supporting Role:
I pick Amy Adams and I have no idea what the academy will do here. If Tarija Henson or Viola Davis wins I will lose faith in mankind.

Best Picture:
Slumdog, Academy will pick it as well.

Yes because Milk will undeservingly sweep.

I've only seen 3 of the 5 nominees but so far his performance was by far the best/most striking. :\ Who would be your pick?

I've yet to see Slumdog and Button so I'll refrain from answering for now...

I'd disagree with this one. Provided everything was the same. Summer blockbusters and super hero films are seen as walls, but their more mountains. Its really easy to **** up a role in those films, but to play them correctly is to give them just as much credit as a serious dramatic film.

The helping hand here was writing and direction. They opted to make these characters, their motives and origins real and logical. Because of this Ledger was able to convey the correct role on screen and that is in large part why I believe he'd take it either way.

The only thing I can't account for is what would have followed the film if he were alive. The overblown hype, the long fanboi interviews. With all of that gone and the role to speak for itself I think there stands a better chance of him winning.

@ adidasss: avoid Button like the plague.

None. As I have said- I don't watch big blockbusters unless they are exceptional. I do own Dark knight and Ledger is indeed excellent but it would have been highly unlikely if it would have won an oscar.

Can't say that I agree. His performance is iconic and would have been Oscar material regardless of his untimely death. Not all people who die get an Oscar nom for their posthumous roles...:\
