Good question.
Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Paul Thomas Anderson, Bela Tarr, Akira Kurosawa, Sergio Corbucci, Jean Luc Goddard, Francois Truffaut, Andrei Tarkovsky, Elem Klimov, Ana Lily Amirpour looks promising, I'd be excited to see more from her, but not in my top ten. |
Wow! It's been a long time since the last post! I don't know if anyone is still looking, but I wanna try this too!
MicShazam: Ridley Scott, Brian DePalma, Woody Allen, Satoshi Kon, Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg, Ben Affleck, Joel & Ethan Coen, Wes Anderson. |
The usual suspects are easy. Tarantino, Scorsese, Nolan, Lumet, Coen bros blah blah blah
I'm more interested in newer directors of this era. Matt Reeves is cooking good shit. Shane Black made the Nice Guys and now making a Predator film. Alejandro Iñárritu made Birdman. Edgar Wright continues to perfect his already perfect streak. Yorgos Lanthimos is personally shaping to be my favorite auteur. Wes Anderson Nicolas Winding Refn Guillermo Del Toro Alfonso Cuarón David Robert Mitchell J.C Chandor Ari Aster just made Hereditary and turned the horror landscape upside down. My homeboy Boots just made Sorry To Bother You, a cult classic in the making. But of course none of this would be possible without Jesus himself: Kubrick. |
I see I posted here in 2015. Wanna punch my past self for putting Ben Affleck on that list.
