Angels and Demons

Thoughts?

I watched it the night after it come out, and to be honest, I'm really not sure whether I was happy with it. I felt like even the suspense was fake. I've only read half the book because I got too distracted with other books but still realised that the movie cut out so many important details and even changed major parts of the plot! However Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job with his role and think he was the reason I got through the movie. I wouldn't say it was awful as I was alert the whole movie and it was somewhat realistic, but it just felt forced and I didn't see the sexual chemistry between Mr. Langdon and Miss Vittoria that I think the movie really needed.

5/10

I read the Da Vinci Code and it did what it said on the tin- trashy airport novel. Readable but not worth a re-read. Films comes out and is awful, lacking in every department. I then tried to read Angels and Demons and just became bored with it and never finished it. in fact I think it's still in a draw languishing somewhere.

Then we get a film version again directed by Ron Howard and starring the bore himself Tom Hanks so I think I will skip it!

Haha that's why I gave up on reading Angels and Demons, it was actually boring! I don't understand how Dan Brown's books are best sellers.

Right place, right time I guess. Book shelves are full with conspiracy theory novels now. Quite sad really :(

Scarlett O'Hara 05-20-2009 06:53 PM

I get so sick of them, and next thing you know people make a whole religion out of some fictional book about aliens coming to earth!

No I don't care to see this at all and think it's gonna suck.

But what's with the Tom Hanks dissing? He's one of my favorite actors.

savannah 05-20-2009 07:38 PM

In what sense? I have to say I don't really know anything about Tom Hanks' politics.

Anyway I've never read any of the books but I saw the DaVinci Code movie and thought it was pretty weak so I doubt I'll go see Angels and Demons.

i dont agree with tom hanks' political views, or his monetary contributions,...thus i dont want to add to his bank account to fund such things

Same here, he's a great actor, I just didn't think much of him in these movies.

I read the book Angels & Demons... I'm an avid reader of anything thriller, so obviously I enjoyed it... but under the circumstances of being stuck in a tent in the middle of the desert at the time, I'm suspicious of my motivation.
I also read Davinci Code. Saw the movie as well, but obviously, when you read a book, the movie never does it justice. And that doesn't have to be taken in a positive light... regardless of how good the book is or isn't, the movie will be worse.
(unless you have a completely incapable imagination and get nothing out of reading books)

Can't say that I knew anything about a theatrical film of Angels & Demons... thought it was some kind of high budget documentary of sorts. I'd seen the hypemercials, but didn't think of it as an actual movie.
Am I wrong here?

Bane of your existence 05-21-2009 12:27 AM

Yeah, you're wrong. It's another movie. I read DVC and enjoyed it. I thought Digital Fortress and A&D were pretty horrible, though. So I doubt I'll see this movie. I did just watch Donnie Darko though, so maybe I'll keep my streak of watching bad movies going.

You only just discovered that Donnie Darko was a retarded movie?
Or did you just decide to punish yourself twice?

Bane of your existence 05-21-2009 01:38 AM

Only just discovered. I've been putting it off my whole life because of its fanboy status, then got bored in the tent the other day. It was pretty much exactly what I thought.

Oh man, I've bought and watched some pretty crap movies when I was in the desert. The boredom combined with lack of good shit at the PX equaled me buying and regretting a good 35 percent of all the DVD's I own.

I even sat through this movie called "Shatter Dead" which was so bad, it couldn't even be considered an independent film by any standard other than a definition.
I actually broke the DVD after watching it. I couldn't even bring myself to giving it away. It had to be destroyed.

Alfred 05-21-2009 02:19 PM

I clicked this thread expecting it to be about some prog metal band.

Haha, did you guys atleast have the hadji mart where you were? We get pretty much every movie the day it comes out here for two dollars. They're almost always DVD rips. But yeah, I got this one movie that I swear to god was filmed with a home camera. Not like Cloverfield, for effect. Actually used a home camera and hoped it wouldn't be noticed. It was the worst movie I've ever seen.

Maybe I should create one then.

Piss Me Off 05-22-2009 11:59 AM

I liked it myself, then again i haven't read the book and those who have seem not to like it. I'll agree Ewan McGregor is great in it.

Regarding Donnie Darko, i've fallen asleep through it twice :s

crash_override 05-25-2009 01:54 AM

Just got back from the showing of Angels & Demons... i thought it was tolerable. A bit over the top at points, But tolerable.

FooFighting 06-06-2009 05:42 AM

Angels and Demons.

Who has read it? Who has seen it?

I reckon it's in the top 3 of the books I have read!
It's in the top 5 movies I've ever seen too.

What do you reckon?

RockerGuurl 06-10-2009 07:38 PM

I loves Angels and Demons as a book it was brilliant in my words, I am a huge fan of Dan Brown's, A&D however just didn't transfer well to the big screen they left half of it out! And all of a sudden the camerlengo was Irish wtf? Book brilliant but if you've read it doesn't what the film it'll just wreck your head!

5/10

kkang 06-11-2009 04:14 AM
