Revolver:

Yes, I know everyone hates it but it's beautifully done and yes, it's deep. Andre Benjamin (Yes, the guy from OutKast) is a revelation, I was shocked at how good he was. It's a real love/hate film and most people hate it but I'd imagine a lot of you guys on here would appreciate it. Ray Liotta is great too, if you can stand the sight of him in ultraviolet light wearing a thong.

Anyway, I was gonna post a comprehensive list of best films by year but who's gonna care anyway. So here's a very short version instead:

1. The Return
For my money, the best Russian film I've seen and a masterpiece of world cinema.

and the other 9:
Lantana - Best Australian film I've seen. A fantastic melodrama with a fantastic ensemble cast.
4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days - Chilling masterpiece of East-European cinema.
All or nothing - Mike Leigh's best work.
Me and you and everyone we know - Best indie of the decade from one of the most original and funny artists out there. Shame she doesn't make more.
Speed racer - Spectacular anime adaptation from the most influential and original action directors of our time.
The fall - Visually arresting but also heartbreaking.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind - Second best from the best screenwriter working today.
Amelie - Probably the best thing french cinema has produced since the 60s.
Head-on - Powerful and intense, one of the best examples of the resurgence of new German cinema.

That's it, I guess....:/

I saw this at a party a couple months ago. I thought it was awful....I just really couldn't stand the premise, and the acting was pretty bad.

I haven't seen that many films from this decade that I completely loved, but I thought American Psycho, The Dark Knight, and especially City of God were all really good.

Lantana is superb. Anthony LaPaglia is such an underrated actor. I still think Naked is Mike Leigh's pinnacle myself but that's a 90's film so it doesn't count

Ha, I'm so surprised that someone other than me has even heard of this film... noone here is even familiar with it! I actually only watched it after I saw a version of the play Speaking In Tongues which it is based off. Anyway, I love this film, it's pretty fantastic. Lots of symbolism and metaphorical messages but still very realistic. Definitely worth a watch for anyone interested.

Oh and didn't it win like everything there was to win over there that particular year? I think it's considered by many a serious fan as one of the best auzzy films out there...:/
@Lee: Naked is great, but All or nothing is much warmer, which appeals to my mushy side...

Yeah, I've seen his debut, Bliss, and that was just a big mess. I'm thinking the great quality of Lantana is more due to the fantastic writing than directing. However, I do plan to see Jindabyne nonetheless...
