Default The P.I.F Book Club

THE P.I.F. BOOK CLUB

P.I.F.= PASS IT FORWARD

I'm donating a brand new copy of 'Touching From A Distance' the biography of Ian Curtis & Joy Division written by Ian's wife Deborah Curtis, to be P.I.F'd between members of Music Banter with no less than 500 posts.

I'll post the book free of charge to the first person to reply to this thread and pm me with a forwarding address (Uni/works or PO Box etc. will do for those not wanting to disclose their home address).

Anyone else wanting to read this book should post an interest and I'll add them to a waiting list edited in this post.
The last person to read the book then P.I.F.'s it on (at their expense) to the next in line after signing their username on the inside cover.
The book eventually returns to me when it becomes obvious that the list has run it's course.

Anyone else wishing to PIF a book can start their own PIF list in this thread.

OK, where in the world is this going first...

Piffing Rules.
1. First come, first served.
2. No breaking the sequence...keep the randomness.
3. Anyone wishing to remove their name from the list must notify me via PM.
4. Piffer pays for postage.

I'll take it and I'm totally down for this idea, I've got oodles of books that I would like to see passed on.

This is a brilliant idea.

I'd have to reacquaint myself with Joy Division first, it's been awhile.

Cheers mate, I've been trying to find something on post-punk in the stores around here, but they seem determined to only sell books about American heavy metal, The Beatles, and a few books on punk.

Anyhow I have one that I've been dying to pass on to someone:

Not the biggest Spin fan, however I do think some of their writers are pretty good (Chuck Klosterman for instance). This is a collection of original writing on different bands, genres, movies, etc. Here's a list of each of the chapters:

01. The R.E.M. Method and Other Rites of Passage
02. MTV: Giving People What They Want (Jesus-Is This Really What They Want?)
03. Madonna: Icon of Mall Rats, Ph.D. Candidates and the Rest of us
04. Prince: Funky Sex God
05. U2: Revelation & Lust
06. Run-DMC: the Kings of Queens
07. The Smiths & Morrissey: Beautiful Misery
08. Goth: Suburban High Schools, the Cure, and the secret of happiness
09. Synth-Pop
10. '80s Teen Movies
11. Beastie Boys: White Dudes in the House
12. Rebels Without Pause: Public Enemy Rewrite Hip-Hop as a revolutionary force
13. Chicago House/Detroit Techno: A Tale of Two Cities
14. '80's Metal: Stars, Stripes, and Aqua Net
15. Hip Hop's Golden Age: Roughnecks, Radicals, and Undergrads
16. Metallica: Kill 'Em All
17. Nine Inch Nails: The triump of industrial
18. The Pixies: Gigantic
19. West Coast Hedonism: The Red Hot Chili Peppers & Jane's Addiction
20. Alt-Country: Dust-Bowling For Dollars
21. Gangsta, Gangsta: N.W.A. Dr. Dre, and the Monsters of Rap
22. Tupac: The Reality Show
23. Grunge: Seattle and the Heavy Rock Invasion
24. Nirvana: The Ghost of Saint Kurt
25. Heroin: Sister Morphine & Mr. Brownstone
26. Smashing pumpkins: Songs of Lunchroom Loners
27. Rap-Rock: From "Punk Rock Rap" to Mook Nation
28. Beck: Folk Music, electric boogaloo
29. Green Day: Pop Goes the Punk Rock
30. Ecstasy: Everything starts with an E
31. "Angry Women":Medusas, Riot Grrrls & Dangerous Nymphs
32. Courtney Love: The Girl with the Most Cake
33. Britpop: Champagne Supernovas
34. Radiohead: The Dark Side of the Moon
35. The Notorious B.I.G.: The Life and Death of Big Pappa
36. Electronica: Beats for Fun and Profit
37. Weezer: Geeks Like Us
38. Napster: Too ****ing Good To Last
39. Jam Bands: Smells like Phish
40. Indie hip-hop: Backpacking Across America
41. Emo: We Feel Your Pain
42. Eminem
43. Bjork: Pagan Poetry
44. OutKast: If the Beatles were Playas
45. The White Stripes and the (so-called) return of rock

If this doesn't strike someone's fancy then screw you guys!

Sorry Duga. Those are my rules, but anyone else piffing a book can set their own.
By the time it's your turn you'll probably have 500 posts anyway.
Are you in?
