I didn't think we had a thread like this...so I decided to rip off the album one. There ya go.

We know, the person who made it said so on the first page.

... as I do prefer talking about films, I'm going to lighten the attack on this one.
Plus, the other thread was filled with nagging...

So, let's get back to Scorsese, shall we... (Weirdly, this guy has been ruling my life these last 3 months... but I'm not complaining).

How did people like The Aviator? I'm not sure of the popular opinion, but it really didnt' grab me all that much...

I'm pretty sure that's what overrated is.

An overrated movie sounds like one we can all generally agree gets more praise than it deserves.
Nah, that kinda group think is one thing that usually what leads to movies becoming underrated.

There is no objective criteria for overrated. A movie is simply overrated if I don't think it deserves as much worship as it gets, if my point of view was actually popular consensus, then it wouldn't be overrated, the word I would use instead would be "polarizing", a movie that greatly divides it's audience.

I want to ban all of you.

Get outta my threadz!

Seriously though, it's totally different from the over rated thread. Maybe only one person likes it. Maybe everyone likes it. The important thing is, you don't like it, and you want to know why someone does.

Discuss.

I really enjoyed it.

Howard Hughes was a very interesting person, he's certainly not the kind of person that every filmgoer will find likable or easy to understand, and so I find The Aviator more ambitious than the usual Hollywood biopic because of it's subject and how it portrays him.

I found it very poignant, because I identify with that kind of personality. And trying to come to terms with my own personal problems to pursue my dreams is still something I'm struggling with.

Holy ****...ok I give up.

Spend your days nitpicking subtleties in my posts if you want, I'm just going to ignore it.

And I think Howard Hughes is interesting as well...I just couldn't get into the movie. I might give it another chance as that was just my first viewing, and I was a bit distracted at the time.

OK to get back on topic:

Explain yourselves!

I don't hate it, I didn't think it was bad. I just thought it was nothing out of the ordinary and not particularly well made. The only redeeming thing that kept me watching was Cybill Shepherd who was absolutely beautiful in this, something I've never thought of her before.

Lol, I meant to say Howard Hughes.

Howard Hawks is a golden age movie director, I always get those names mixed up.

duga 04-07-2010 05:01 PM

Haha...I actually didn't catch that at all. I mixed them up as well, but I'm using your initial mix up as my excuse.
