the funniest thing i saw him associated with was that Landlord clip. he didn't actually need to be in that clip for it to be hilarious (the little girl wins) but HE doesn't seem to actually add anything to a scene.

Anchorman was painful to watch, maybe it's because i actually like Eric Dolphy's music and took offense to his treatment of it for a cheap laugh early on, but i didn't find anything else in that movie to be anything besides mind numbing.

I think a lot of people who others think are funny may not be when extracted from their surroundings in their particular setting. I do think, however, that the inclusion of the people comprising these surroundings are what make things funny and that it's not always based on a line or an action, but moreso on a situational context that can be dependent on the chemistry of those people involved.

While I respect your opinion of a certain person being or not being funny... I think most people can agree that we don't watch comedy movies and disregard everything but a single actor and what he does or does not do.

I just think your argument would be better suited if you were critiquing a solo stand-up act by said actor.

Here's the thing. I don't even know if I would want a sequel, because sequels are usually crap and diminish the value of the original. And I think Anchorman is basically pretty much the greatest film ever made. So I don't want to have to lower my standards for a reboot. Even if it's a great comedy, I'm sure I'll be disappointed.

How could it be bad though? The only guys you have to bring back is the news team, and each of those guys still have game. It's really a "dream team" of a cast, what with Ferrell headlining with Carell and Rudd.

Will Ferrell is funny though. It's like... a fact. Because people laugh at what he does, and he has done many different things that people have laughed at. How can every single laugh be a result of "his environment and the people around him" and not his own actions? That's just ridiculous.

And f you think Anchorman is not an extremely popular movie amongst my generation you are terribly mistaken. It's a cult classic that would draw significant attention if a sequel were to be made.

Well, you're in the minority on that one...

When sequels suck they make the overall "franchise" look bad. Call it the "New-Coke Effect" if you'd like.

Easily the most quotable, and possibly the most popular comedy of my generation...

First of all, that movie is six years older so obviously it attracts a slightly different generation. I was eight years old when it came out.

Secondly, that movie is not nearly as funny or quotable! :D

bungalow 05-04-2010 01:26 AM

that's just objectively ridiculous.

I really ought to get around to seeing TBL. But yeah, I liked Anchorman a lot too.
