Do you think the movies live up to the hype? Are you a big fan of the Harry Potter series?

I freaking love the books, they are so well written and imagination captivating, and I don't want to be like every other vapid fan saying the 'book was better', however the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movies just out blowed compared to the book. I wish the actors could act better. The emotions just wern't there.

Anyway, fire your opinions.

I'm a huge fan of the books. I started reading them when I was 12... and am incredibly attached. I think the movies are also fantastic. They are the best novel-to-film adaptations I've ever come across... it would be pretty hard manipulating the Harry Potter books into film and I think they've done a pretty good job.

I like the Half-Blood prince. The only complaints I have are:

1 - Way too much Twilight-esque teen romance lame humour stuff.

2- Harry doesn't mourn for the death of Sirius (instead he checks his breath is okay as he attempts to pick up a girl at a cafe).

3- Not enough scenes on Vodlemort/ Tom Riddle's past (e.g. they cut out the scene where Tom kills 7 people and then comes back to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a job)

4- No funeral for Dumbledore.

Otherwise, I thought it was really good. I love the actors that were cast (especially Slughorn!) and I just really enjoyed it and thought it was a pretty good adaptation.

I loved the scenes from Tom Riddle's past. My favourite part of the movie actually. Some more of those would've been appreciated

I disagree. I know plenty of guys that love Harry Potter. Most people my age grew up with the books so it's kind-of... sentimental.

Yeah exactly. In the book there were HEAPS of memories that were delved into. The movie kind-of left them out to add more stupid teen humour.

I'm 21, I started reading the Harry Potter series in 1997 when The Philosopher's Stone came out and occasionally re-read them when I need something light that holds nostalgic value. I know a lot of younger people's parents got into the series, both my mom and dad did, and my older brother and his wife (who are both 31) have read them.

Most of the people I know who read them are girls, but not all of them. I can't criticise Harry Potter really because I haven't read any of the books or seen any of the films but I have never had the slightest bit of interest in something that it would appear I am at LEAST 10 years too old for.

While the earlier books are aimed at young teens, the books grow with their audience, so the later books in the series are aimed at adults and older teens. Having read them I'd say they are far too dark/ mature for children. Plus I know plenty of adults, lots over 50, who read and enjoy them.

Well you may be right. As I mentioned I haven't read any of them so I can't judge. Even if they were aimed at adults I still have had no interest but thats simply the way i've always thought about them.
