With technology's advancement, high quality film and footage can be shot, edited, and produced by any shlub with a passion. Because of this, documentaries have become far more common than they might have in the past.

Small bands of interested parties armed with a camcorder and a Macbook Pro can now compete, with the help of internet and viral marketing, with the big boys and show healthy results.

My hope for this thread is that we can post clips of our favorites and discuss them. I'm actually revitalizing my Netflix account primarily because of this genre and cannot wait to get my hands on these things.

Went into this movie knowing Nader only as a Presidential gadfly from the 2000 presidential election and really despising him. I went primarily because I thought the film (given its title) was a detractor and also because the woman I was sleeping with at the time wanted to.

I came out of this film realizing what I'd known of Ralphy boy was nothing at all. An eye-opening portrayal of a man who really did give his life for public service.

I highly recommend this one.

The first result, Topdocumentaryfilms.com is a good one. Great video quality and a huge selection. Then there are the hundreds of other sites hosting thousands of documentaries. All online streams.
I've been ripping through about 3 documentaries a day. Mostly science docs though. :/

My faves have to be the Earth series. Nature docs in general, science docs, and neuroscience docs. Religious history docs are good too. Shit... I watch a lot of documentaries. I'll have to keep with this thread and post what really stands out for me.

Just finished "It Might Get Loud." If you're a music nerd, this is for you. Nothing wildly insightful save for Jack White making a guitar out of crap he has around his house and the 3 man jam at the end to the Band's "The Weight."

A great look at the bands, the men themselves, and the axes they play.

You, my friend, are awesome. That link provided gives me such a bone. I've been a doc whore lately as well, but going through blockbuster online, and its not up to par with my movie watching ability. I'm hooked already.

Yea the topdocumentary site is the most updated site I could find. Consistent quality and quantity from there.

NetFlix is the ****.

Managed to find a documentary I've been meaning to watch for a while. :thumb:
Some of it's in German, but it takes nothing away from the vid.
Fascinating look at photographer James Nachtwey's work and unique style.
Anyone who has an interest in photography should watch this documentary.
It follows him around the trouble spots of the world which includes places like Indonesia, Kosovo and Palestine.
His respect, perspective and philosophical approach to people and the work he does is inspirational.
