Light Sleeper is an absolute gem. Shame more people don't know about it
shrader also based his screenplay heavily on robert bresson's film pickpocket, which would have made a very appropriate match-up. except that there is absolutely no contest as to which is better. shrader himself has said pickpocket is "an unmitigated masterpiece" and "as close to perfect as can be." actually, as i'm sure you know, pickpocket was an enormous influence on every film you've mentioned in this post. anyway, for me:

taxi driver 1
one flew over the cuckoo's nest 2

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - 4
Taxi Driver - 1

although i love Taxi Driver for all that it....esp. the wonderful shots of the streets of New York and the colors running rampant throughout Travis's monologues....Cuckoo's Nest has something much more personal and enthralling....i honestly think that Louise Fletcher is the brightest star...her speech about music is one favorites in film

Wow. I thought Taxi Driver would take OFOTCN easily. (I love both films, but Taxi Driver is just that much better IMO.) Quite surprised how it's shaping up.

People, the reasoning for voting for things in this thread are no where to be seen. I don't care if it's really generic like "I could relate to it more."

But I'd like something. Even if you vote for one film because you dropped the other film's DVD on your foot and it really hurt - I'd like to know!
