Marvel vs. Capcom is totally the best game ever, yo. Still haven't beaten Onslut though. : (

TBH, Metal Slug and Bust-A-Move beat the pants off of every other arcade game, ever.

Mario beats the pants off every other game game, ever.

Samurai Shodown 2 (Samurai Spirits 2 in Japan) is possibly the best fighting game ever created. I've owned it for years and to this day, time has not lessened its luster in the slightest. Nice to see it on your list. It brings a tear to my eye.

Haha, it is a great game. I think it's available on Xbox Live Arcade so I'm going to get it and play online. :)

hmm... 5 2d fighting games, and 4 of them are basically the exact same game with different character graphics. good thing this is a 'top 10'...

i was also playing Pole Position when it was new.

i mean really. no TMNT? no Gauntlet? no Terminator 2? Afterburner (you actually sat in a moving shell / c0ckpit). Hang On (sitting on a bike). San Fransisco Rush? Virtua Fighter? Mortal Kombat? Smash TV? Gradius?

and this is supposed to be 'classics'?

this man speaks truth for the most part, i'd argue they're the pinnacle of their styles, but maybe not the medium in its entirety, but whatever, Bust-A-Move IS awesome.

Holy ****, did I accidentally publish this in 'Retro Gamer' magazine? Oh, no, I didn't, so your post is quite bizarre. These are my favorite games that I've played on MAME - I've only played a few of the mentioned games outside of emulation, so the feeling of riding on a motorcycle or sitting in a moving shell is, uh, lost.

With that said, Terminator 2 is not top ten quality, and Defender is better than Gradius. The racing games are usually too slow in MAME, and Smash TV would be in my top 10 if I did it today but I didn't have a joystick a week ago. Make a top ten list of your own and post it here.

Lies!

Props for being the first side scrolling shoot em up though (that I know of anyway), it's still hella fun. I love most of the golden age arcade games, brilliant in their simplicity.
