Boardwalk Empire

"Boardwalk Empire" (2009)

anybody else catch the premiere last night?

i had high expectations and must they were met three fold....

James 09-20-2010 02:56 PM

I missed it. Want to see it though Kelly McDonald <3

bob. 09-20-2010 03:03 PM

yeah!...i have to agree with you on that....

it took me a few to actually recognize her....

Hank The Drifter 09-20-2010 06:51 PM

I was very interested in what the show was going to turn out like. I have planned on watching it since I found out it was coming on and then forgot about it. So I'll probably torrent it and watch it or something. I'm gonna check it out for sure.

Violent & Funky 09-20-2010 09:26 PM

YES! Absolutely epic. And to top it off, Eastbound and Down starts this Sunday...

Hank The Drifter 09-20-2010 09:28 PM

Dudes, I just downloaded the episode and watched it. Wow, it was much more than what I expected. To be just the first episode of the season, totally epic. I can't wait for the new episode. I love the 1920's-1950's and gangster type movies/shows so this show fits me perfectly.

bob. 09-21-2010 10:01 AM

i watched it again last night....and yeah great re-watchability.....

i think the relationship between Nucky and Jimmy should be very interesting

debaserr 09-21-2010 05:04 PM

i really didn't like it. all too often it seemed fake. and some of the acting was pretty terrible(buscemi wasn't good in particular). i will give it a few more shots, but my initial reaction is negative.

Violent & Funky 09-21-2010 09:47 PM

Buscemi is a spectacular actor!

debaserr 09-21-2010 10:05 PM

name one film where you would consider him above average in.

Violent & Funky 09-21-2010 10:11 PM

All of them! He's one of my favorite actors.

Reservoir Dogs?

debaserr 09-21-2010 10:16 PM

i have seen many of his films. he's never particularly impressed me. he always feels a little flat to me.

Violent & Funky 09-21-2010 10:18 PM

He plays the creepy guy really well (because he looks creepy). And I love that he can do silly things like work in Sandler movies...

i agree, any respectable actor doing a sandler movie is certainly a silly idea for their public image. and what if he is just a creepy guy IRL?

Violent & Funky 09-21-2010 10:23 PM

I don't know, man, I enjoy his performances and his movies--including Sandler films such as Big Daddy. Fuck teh hatehs!

i agree to a certain degree....the boardwalk seemed like a set, the fish catching scene seemed totally fake....and the actress who plays Nucky's gal is way over the top 1920's Jersey girl

Hank The Drifter 09-26-2010 09:10 PM

Just starting this weeks episode. Hope it continues getting better. I was honestly surprised by last weeks debut of the show. I was expecting something different, but it turned out being different and in a good way.

emby 10-13-2010 07:58 PM

I like the show, and apparently the set for the boardwalk is built in New Jersey.

That's good. It would be lame if it was a set in Hawaii or something.

chiron 10-18-2010 01:38 AM

The story about bookshelves was epic. The only problem I have with this series is that Steve Buscemi's character somehow isn't interesting enough (compared to Tony Soprano or Al Swearengen) considering that he is the lead. But I guess there is still time for the story to unfold.

Dude, get a clue.

Barton Fink (even though it's a small role)
Reservoir Dogs
Fargo
The Big Lebowski
Ghost World

Anyways, how's the show been coming along. I was meaning to watch it from the beginning but kind of forgot. Worth catching up on?

debaserr 11-05-2010 09:06 PM

no, you get a clue, bra. i've seen all of those. i'd say he was best in reservoir dogs but nothing special.

i quit on the show after 2 'sodes, it's that poor.

keith! 11-07-2010 08:49 AM

i'm gonna stick with this show at least til the end of the season since i've already watched the first 7 episodes. it is a tad bit boring, expected a bit better, any parts with jimmy really do drag on.

also Steve Buscemi is pretty hilarious in Fargo. Though I'd agree his been pretty mediocre in this show

Ahh I dunno, Owen had it coming. They could have ran off ages ago, should have used their time for running and not for ****ing. Does make me wonder what will happen to Margaret though...

Aye!

To be honest I am a little disappointed we didn't see him in more action, y'know, killing people, he probably had the best military training out of any of the other henchmen there except Richard. I liked him because he was invovled in the same war as my great Grandfather, and around the same age as him(17 during the war) and he was on the same side as Eoin during the Civil War. I wish they had developed his character a bit more.

True, considering Nucky barely had a crew to speak of anyway. I thought he was great when he first turned up but his whole storyline just seemed to get a bit stale. Yeah I can see why that would have been interesting. I have some Northern Irish roots, my brother served in the British Army over there in the 90s while my mum's cousin was still apparently a member of the IRA. Pretty safe to say it's a divisive topic.

But back on topic, I guess they only really wanted the Americanised version of the romantic Irish rebel and weren't too fussed about Irish politics as a whole. Still, I did think they might have carted him and Maggie back to Ireland for some lovin and then have their own little story, with Nucky turning up on their door somewhere down the line...

Freebase Dali 10-19-2014 04:17 PM

I've always watched Boardwalk Empire, but season 5 is insanely awesome.

"This is where hope comes to get fucked in the ass"

That line right there actually managed to sound classy in the Devil You Know episode. But apart from that, the peeks into Nucky's childhood and earlier years is very well done and adds a lot. And I don't think they could have cast a better young-man-nucky.
