I was watching a movie the other day that I had taped off the tv forever ago, probably around 1997-8, back when they actually had Friday night movies on. Before I had a chance to fast forward through the commercials I saw an ad come on the tv showing the upcoming season of

NASH BRIDGES

I had almost forgot about that show!
Goodness that brought back some memories. That was a good show what happened to it!

And then I saw an advertisement for
JAG
What a boring show with annoyingly serious characters, I remember hating that show so much when I was a kid.

And do you guys remember TGIF when they played all the teeny bopper shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and then they had Third Rock from the Sun and Boy Meets World?

Man I missed those days.

I remember the days when The X-Files was on at 9:00 PM on Fridays. I remember watching the episode from season two with the fluke man right before going on a camping trip with my dad and refusing to use the port-a-potty at the camp site. While our campsite neighbours may not have liked me taking a shit near their site, I stayed safe from half man half fluke worm mutants.


Another show I remember from my youth was a tv show called Bump in the Night. It was a claymation show about a monster called Bumpy who lived under this kid's bed and felt some kind of protectiveness towards the kid, despite the fact that the kid is terrified of Bumpy. However Bumpy never makes the connection that he is the monster that the kid is terrified of. The show also featured this blue squishy thing named Squishington that lived in a toilet, and the kid's sister's doll named Molly (I think).

The X-Files always scared me half to death but I always watched them too.
I remember Tales from the Crypt Keeper scaring the living **** out of me during Saturday morning cartoons. But I loved it anyway and I couldn't peel my eyes off that show even if I wanted too.

Sapphire & Steel


I was really young when this was aired but I bought the series on DVD and despite the budget and special effects being non existant, even watching it now it's really dark & claustrophobic and creepy as hell, and the scripts & ideas behind it were fantastic.

It's about 2 agents (Sapphire & Steel) who are a part of a group of mysterious agents who fix cracks in time.
It's never explained what or who they are or who they work for, they just turn up & stop time manifesting itself as either ghosts or creatures or making deals with people giving them chances to turn back the clock and correct mistakes that give time a way in to threaten the world.

My favourite story is the one where time manifests itself as a faceless man who can transfer himself into any photo, trap people inside photos & make copies of people inside them.

lucky for me the CBC here in Canada would fill their schedule with old BBC programs on weekend mornings, this made Sunday mornings pretty awesome for a time. anyone ever manage to score any kind of modern release of this series? i remember hearing plans for it when McGoohan passed away but i've never seen it on a shelf.

i remember when TGIF was about reruns of Family Ties and a 'new' episode of Full House and Family Matters. there was nothing to be thankful for on Fridays hahaha

I have a task finding people who actually remember this show. It was a mini tv series on itv out in the late 90's called The Last Train. Basically, a meteor collides with earth and a bunch of people are on an underground train at the time. One of the passengers has a device which freezes time and keeps them there until everything above ground has settled.

The mini series was based around their journey on earth after the meteor had hit. I was only 8/9 when it was out, and it was fucking sublime. I remember one scene in particular where a woman (I think it was the short haired girl in the picture below) finds a wild boar and stabs it several times in the eye/head so they could eat it. Anybody remember it?

For christs sake Urban, that plot line gives Dr. Who a run for his money.
But no kidding, that looks like a such a good one. I love old tv shows like that that have rough special effects. I think it make it scarier because they make you use your imagination more. Half the stuff today relies too heavily on special effects and kills the imagination aspect and the scare of 'not knowing'. And that narrator is classic. Paper burnnnnssss awesome. And dammit those old spooker shows like that have the scariest sound effects.

Oh yeah......and I remember staying up REALLY LATE one time on Friday and caught an episode of Xenia Warrior Princess. God was that show awful too.
I remember Family Matters. Even though its been about 10 years since I've seen it and would probably cringe if I watched it now, I can't rag on that show. Steve Urkel is an American hero.

Not a bad story line, I wouldn't mind seeing that. I don't see why they would stab a boar though, I figured they could just freely raid all the grocery stores. Its so hilarious which small little scenes of tv shows we can remember.

Hello boys and ghouls....

I LOOOOVED Tales from the crypt when I was a kid. Although I had to sneak-watch it back then, what with all the frequent breasts and sex scenes.
I've recently been re-watching all the seasons online and I still find them interesting. I love the twists, as they remind me of simple versions of Twilight Zone episodes, which is my absolute fave. And all the Crypt Keeper's cheesy puns. Those crack me up.

Never watched much of it, but when I was able to catch episodes as a kid I remember just being in awe of it. I pestered my parents for helicopter toys to no end because of that show.
