R.I.P Pete Postlethwaite.
An actor I have actively seeked out regarding his appearances on film and they have been few and far between because he generally played in theatre but when he appeared on film boy did he shine.
Even though Spielberg is not the greatest barometer of taste, when he proclaimed Postlethwaite as the greatest actor he has ever worked with then it's worth noting. He died just over a week or two back and it is a genuine loss. No sycophantic eulogies for the sake of it. This man could act his ass off. For American audiences, you may remember him from The Usual Suspects film and Jurassic Park The Lost World. On film: This actually lead to the government of the U.K to make changes to their policy of closing coal pits. |
Man, he was a great actor. I had no idea he had died. :(
Never heard of him or seen him, but he must have been pretty good according to your stories :)
what a shame....:(
I've heard about his death a while ago. He was great in 'In the Name of the Father'. I've read Daniel Day Lewis adored him.

I was really bummed when I heard the news. The clip from Brassed Off is a good example of his talent. He will be missed.
He was pretty good in that new film that the name escapes me. The Town maybe? Im sre most purists will say no way but I thought it to be real interesting.
He was in The Town as well as Inception, I believe were his last two roles
What did he play in Inception? I honestly dont remember him even being in that.
He was the dying man, whose son was the heist victim.
I watched The Town not a week before his death and noticed how gaunt he appeared in the film, but had no idea he was dying.
I was genuinely shocked when I saw the news. He's that kind of actor who I instantly recognize when I see on screen, but can never remember his name or what movies he's been in. R.I.P. |
He soo overacted in the town, it was kinda annoying.
I haven't seen enough of his other work to judge him fairly though. |
Argh, that isnt the first time that iPlayer has presented itself an obstacle to my viewing enjoyment. :(
For real? Im very sad for his family, that guy was a really excellent actor, though the last thing I saw him in was Solomon Kane I think which was fun but not exactly the high watermark of acting :)
RIP Pete. |
