Another reason to love Lang. (The second Mabuse Movie is a damn good film, as well)

Queen Boo 01-31-2011 01:36 PM

too late to vote for the Haunting?

Sansa Stark 01-31-2011 01:55 PM

I'm excited for the Blow Up, it sounds like a great film

Arya Stark 01-31-2011 02:10 PM

I wanna play.

Haha, that's what I thought before I saw it too.

Sansa Stark 01-31-2011 02:20 PM

It's not good?

ThePhanastasio 01-31-2011 02:21 PM

I voted "Blow Up" 'cause it's the only one I haven't seen. Kind of excited to check it out.

For me it was one of those movies where I kept looking at the timer on the DVD player counting down the minutes until it would end. A lot of people consider it a classic though, so who knows, maybe you'll like it.

Sansa Stark 01-31-2011 02:30 PM

Damn. I'm kind of impatient with movies, so I'm iffy now.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-31-2011 02:42 PM

Eh, don't be. Premise is very interesting. Plus, I'll have it uploaded fairly quickly since the file should be less than megauploads free download limit when zipped.

jackhammer 01-31-2011 05:02 PM

Might I suggest that the movies are recommended by genre each time instead of a random bunch of films?

Some people may not like a certain film (despite it's merits) due to the content.

Having a genre per week (for example) means that everyone can suggest a film even if they are not huge cinephiles?

Hmmm... Well, I can understand maybe barring films like 'Sado' albeit I personally would watch it if it was part of the repertoire.

Right now, I have two suggested nominations. The film this week is 'Blow Up' which I believe is a noir, correct? We could make a rule that says not to nominate the film of the last genre.

IE. Blow Up is a noir, so you can't suggest Chinatown, Casablanca, etc. If the Haunting wins next week, you can't suggest The Shinning, or Silence Of the Lambs.

Right now, though, I like the elective choices. Could understand though if we go free reign we could get some offended people.

Arya Stark 01-31-2011 05:14 PM

The point is to get into movies maybe you've never thought about before though.
That's the point with Music Club at least. Idk.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-31-2011 05:17 PM

I don't know, I think we have a fairly non mainstream list. I mean, apart from Carrie, and maybe Brazil, I haven't heard of a single one of them.

Arya Stark 01-31-2011 05:18 PM

Yeah I was disagreeing with Jackhammer, not with you.

djchameleon 01-31-2011 05:18 PM

yeah what she said up there ^^^^^

jackhammer 01-31-2011 05:19 PM

Salo would put people off ever coming in this thread again lol Even though I think it's a good film!

It was just a suggestion and Aww Sugar is right but now u have to expect all manner of weird stuff recommended by me lol

Arya Stark 01-31-2011 05:20 PM

Exactly. And if it's picked randomly the way the Music Club picks it, then yours won't always get picked. And lots of types will gt chosen.

URg... *hits head* Salo not Sado.

djchameleon 01-31-2011 05:22 PM

the weirder the better, Jackhammer and I will probably vote for the more weirder things as I haven't seen them

dankrsta 01-31-2011 05:29 PM

I really like all the films suggested so far. No generic choices.

Btw, when does the discussion for Blow Up start?

djchameleon 01-31-2011 05:32 PM

I think a new thread is going to be created for it and after he sends out the link to everyone or something like that

Sansa Stark 01-31-2011 05:39 PM

Oh jesus, **** no on Salo

I'm downloading it as we speak. Going to take a bit. I can start a discussion thread now, though. Just won't be able to monitor it because of the spoilers.

dankrsta 01-31-2011 05:49 PM

I haven't seen Salo in ages. So, this would be a good opportunity to see it again and to read what people think about it. It's a film that would really make for a heated discussion, whether you like it or not. It would certainly test people's limits. Although I don't think it would win in the voting, if nominated at all.

djchameleon 01-31-2011 05:55 PM

whoa if Salo is going to be tossed around might as well watch Caligula too

dankrsta 01-31-2011 06:03 PM

And what do you know, I've seen Caligula too :D

Anyway, my post was more 'what if'. I mean, I won't nominate it :p:

Phantom Limb 02-01-2011 02:32 PM

Can i still join? If so, I nominate Sin Nombre.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 02-01-2011 02:34 PM

yes, send me an PM. On that note, uploading the film - FINALLY - next time will not take as long. Just was trying to figure out how I wanted to compress/distribute it.

Ended up split rars through megaupload... damn I'm so original(I thought it'd be small enough, but I thought the limit was 1400 mb not 1 gig).

Edit: PM not e-mail.

I'm sure that makes you much happier.

Is it really necessary for you to upload? I mean Blowup is pretty easy to find. I already downl. it and watched it again today. I'm asking because I'm not sure what exactly are the benefits of you uploading it if links can be found elsewhere. It would just save you time.

Eh, feel it's just a good service to members of the club.

I demand that you also ship popcorn to everyone.

It's been up since Monday. Discuss.

NumberNineDream 02-02-2011 11:57 AM

We have a Movie Club at my Uni which I'm a big fan of, and there's a system that we have that I really like and I thought I'd suggest it: A Themed Cycle/Month.

Like if we're already set to watch Blow Up, why not have the next 2 or 3 movies also themed about Swinging London, Voyeurism, Photography, or whatever theme we ended up giving to that mentioned film.

It would be interesting to compare the different ways the same thing is developed by different movie makers... The theme could be a very general one, like simply British New Wave, or Murder Mystery or maybe even try to have special month dedicated for a chosen, maybe underrated, director or writer.

Anyway, that's my suggestion if anyone's interested.
