Did anyone catch the super bowl halftime show last night?

cause it was awful

Charlemagne 02-07-2011 11:21 AM

I did, and I also thought it was terrible, tron ripoff, Daft Punk ripoff, vocals auto-tuned, then again every Super Bowl halftime show of the last 10 years has been awful.

alli-oop 02-07-2011 11:25 AM

i flipped to the channel while it was on. it sounded like the dueling auto tune things. It sounded ridiculous. I watched for a min and it was kinda neat with the lights...you know, shiny things impress me, but I had to change it soon after.

Geetarguy 02-07-2011 11:25 AM

my band turned off the volume and played through it... althought I can't say it was much better, we were pretty shmammered at that point lol.

The Batlord 02-07-2011 11:36 AM

Yeah, aren't The Black Eyed Peas a rap group? Cause you really couldn't tell last night.

I think they stopped being a rap group after their second album in 2000.

Luckily I wasn't subjected to their half time "performance" since I didn't watch the Super Bowl. But I've heard much about it.

Burning Down 02-07-2011 12:30 PM

The Black Eyed Peas sucked more than they usually do. I came to that conclusion after watching the half-time show for 30 seconds, then I flipped the channel.

EDIT: Thread moved to the Media section.

Insane Guest 02-07-2011 03:58 PM

I heard the first few lines of Sweet Child of Mine being sung by the plastic chick and I just got up and walked away from the TV. It was sad to watch, almost painful. That was one of my favorite songs as a kid, and it is overplayed and overrated, but it just got destroyed by that performance.

captaincaptain 02-07-2011 04:07 PM

I caught it, then threw it back.

I watched it. Eh, nothing great. Cool dancers and all the extra stuff though, it looked cool. I never really have halftime show expectations anymore. I just want it to go quickly so I can get back to watching the game.

ThePhanastasio 02-07-2011 06:01 PM

Fergie freaked me out a bit. I didn't like the performance, and she was way too intense and shouting and such. I was more scared than anything.

Kevorkian Logic 02-07-2011 06:36 PM

Here is my review of the whole thing:

a) i'm not sure the black eyed peas actually know how to dance at this point. They sorta stood there and dig a weird combination walk-wiggle-pump your arms thing. Really wasn't sure what was going on there

b) SLASH?

c) the tech guys for that show deserve the real praise, to pull off those lights and staging so quickly. Damn.

d) USHER?

e) There new song is terrible

f) Their singing volume was off or weird or something

g) SLASH????

h) I was half expecting tupac or mj to come down at the end--best comeback ever

OccultHawk 02-07-2011 06:51 PM

They should get KISS to do it, every year.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 02-07-2011 07:18 PM

I don't get why anybody would expect quality from something so inevitably cheesy as a half time show?

I actually thought the Prince one a few years ago was really good.

Yeah, I love how he worked "Best Of You" by Foo Fighters into the medley.

I really enjoyed that one too. Certainly one of the better shows.

pourmeanother 02-07-2011 11:59 PM

I thought the halftime show was the time you are supposed to catch up on the Puppy Bowl, drink, and load a plate with food so you can stay seated for the second half. People watch it?

Slightly because of the reason that its the most viewed televised event on American T.V. every year. The top five most televised events in u.s. television history are M.A.S.H. and the last four super bowls for that matter. This year having an audience of 111 million viewers. Unfortunatley they repeatedley fail to book anyone who can remotley live up to the halftime entertainment expectations.

Regardless, it's basically a trumped up high school flag girls show. If it's good, you should feel treated. If it's ****, it should be expected. You could be like me and not bother with the superbowl in the first place. IMO, the whole thing is an overglorified Budweiser commercial.

I just don't know why anyone would put expectations in a cheesy halftime show. Look at the nature of what it is. It's not like you're going to get Jesus rising from the turf, and spewing out his message of world peace, infinitely shinning light on the world.

While I dont agree with you..your post did make me laugh.. For me to not bother with the Super Bowl. Would be to deny myself any kind of closure for the season. Regaurdless if my teams in the running or not, I follow the sport pretty closley and remain curious as to who will win in the end. After all the predictions ,and analysis, and what nots. Its just one of the few things I take interest in and enjoy following.

It's Fox dude. It's entirely possible that Jesus could rise during the half-time show and tell everyone that to go to heaven, they must believe in him and drink Budweiser.

Budweiser probably has enough money to buy him off.

You obviously don't know the black eyed peas, they never claimed to be dancers at all so I don't know why people are ragging on them for not dancing all over the stage when they aren't DANCERS!!

bob. 02-08-2011 02:19 PM

isn't one of them (Black Eyed Peas) practically blind?

They claim to be PERFORMERS, last time I checked performers are capable of singing and doing more than pumping and off-beat bopping. They will make millions from the show I feel like they could have at least worked on maybe a high kick or something snazzy like that.

just because you are a performer doesn't mean you will automatically start dancing and doing choreographed routines when you don't know anything about dancing in the first place.

I don't think you know what the word performer means. It certainly doesn't mean that they need to dance when they aren't dance or hop around the stage. Sure the lighting guy or w/e tech was awesome but who's idea do you think it was? THEIRS! performers don't have to do more than just sing if they want to.

One thing I would have liked them to do, just like their entrance where they came down on those ropes or w/e. I feel like they should have left the same way. It would have been pretty cool. Slash was awesome and I agree that Fergie flubbed up whatever she was attempting to do. Usher was also a highlight of the performance doing a split over will's head. I'm a B.E.P. fan so I enjoyed it but I can see why others didn't.

Bloozcrooz 02-09-2011 10:08 AM

At any rate ultimatley its the Super Bowl. Even though the number of viewers are in an elite category. Ultimatley its main purpose is the contest of athletic ability. Despite the continued disappointment of those who are in search of some sort of musicapalooza fantasy. Ive come to expect the halftime show to be crap and turn to a sportsnetwork for the experts to give their halftime anaylization of the first half statistics. Along with what adjustments should be made for either team to have suceess in the second half of play. Might I suggest something other than a football game halftime event. To satisfy your hunger for musical excellence in the future. The idea is with good intention but is consistantly a product of its own enevitable detriment. Its heartbreaking I know, but I wouldnt expect a brief throw and catch game during a recess at a Rolling Stones concert to be able to meet my football expectations either. While its audience doesnt see the concert of a lifetime the point is the game does exceeds the level of play we tune in for. So be patient oh yea of little athletic ability, interest, or knowledge. American Idol should be more to your liking.

Without sounding as if im contridicting myself the earlier argument was as to why the concerts are held in such high regaurd. To which the obvious fact of it being the most viewed event on t.v. every year. However thats not to dismiss the fact that the majority of the viewers are sports fans and didnt expect a musical phenomina.

splash 02-09-2011 07:01 PM

the only thing, besides Slash, that could have made that worthwhile is if Fergie wet herself again. Despite the cheesiness, she did a decent job of singing at some parts because i imagine its hard to hear anything over the crowd. The rest of BEP was painful to watch/hear.

Howard the Duck 02-10-2011 04:24 AM

not the least interested to watch it on youtube

should have used Buckethead, not Slash

djchameleon 02-10-2011 04:50 AM

isn't Buckethead dead?

I told you don't ask me why I know they are completely different genres. I can't explain my reasoning for the mix up but I do it all the time. I even downloaded Buckethead's album expecting to hear a solo album from Dimebag
