Rango

Has anyone seen this movie? I saw this music video-style trailer, and it's really making me want to see it. I thought it was going to be just another kids movie. Rango Music Video on Vimeo

I love the song, too.

it's alright - I'm only using a netbook and the line is slow - it'll overheat if I leave it on for too long, the vents are pretty small and the fans aren't powerful enuff

What are you guys talking about, Rango is still in the theaters! It actually just out did..Battle LA last weekend. Did u guys check the Bob Dillon cover Rango vid...pretty rad lol. I guess I am just a sucker for cowboys and the desert.

I went to see that one with my family - my mom insists on getting together to watch children's movies still, occasionally something PG-13. This fell into the former category of children's movies.

I didn't hate it, but I expected so much more from it. Seeing the clips and how the actors actually acted the movie out like a play while reading the lines instead of just sitting in a soundbooth really interested me and piqued my interest in the whole thing. So, in other words, I was expecting some sort of kid's movie greatness afforded by such great movies as Up and Toy Story.

With expectations that high, when it fell a bit short, I was pretty disappointed. I also really didn't like Johnny Depp's voice acting at all, but he's been getting on my nerves as of late anyway.

Billy Nighy was brilliant.

Uhhh yeah I do not agree with you! Maybe you are frustrated with your own personal life and that is why Johnny Depp is annoying you. Come on' dude, you can't act!! Get over yourself. :stupid:

Wow, wow, hold on there! :whythis:

So when you don't like someone's acting you're frustrated with your own life, eh? Now, that's a fucking stupid reasoning. We, as a public, have every right to criticize and evaluate actors' work and not just theirs, but of every other artist. That's what we do as audience.

Btw, I don't like Johnny Depp's acting lately either. He has become a parody when he puts on a costume, a gimmick. And yeah, I can see that even though I'm not an actor. I must be frustrated because of it, right?

I haven't liked Johnny Depp since Sleepy Hollow/Fear and Loathing...

All right, the bolded bit is all that was needed for a civilized response. Perhaps you could also have added, "I personally thought Johnny Depp did great in the part."

Maybe you could even have supplemented that with asking why I personally thought the performance wasn't particularly noteworthy, or by going into your own reasons for finding it to be a great performance. That seems as though it would have been a good way to respond, and would have completely taken away the need for personal attacks directed at someone you don't even know.

As for why I didn't find it noteworthy and why Johnny Depp's performances haven't really clicked with me lately: I don't feel like he's trying anymore. He's doing very similar parts, I don't see that he's connecting with the characters, and he's laying on accents like they're a cheap coat and not like they're an actual bit of his character. It's been feeling artificial to me lately, and it's been feeling lazy. It seems to me as though he's just put it on autopilot and thinks, "I'm Johnny Depp; I don't even have to try anymore."

The reason this is frustrating to me is because I have seen him do good, occasionally even great work in the past. When I see an actor with what I'd believed to be unlimited potential start to coast in and give the same type of performance over and over with seemingly no regard for the character, I naturally begin to feel a bit frustrated.

Maybe it's because, oh, I don't know...maybe it's because I get the majority of my income from acting, directing, writing, and teaching theatre workshops.

Ok, since you guys don't like his acting..you can still appreciate the animation. BOTTOM line: that Rango Music Video is awesome :dj:

Merkaba 04-01-2011 11:38 PM

Rango was terrible. It failed to make me, or anyone else in the cinema, laugh and that's what animated films ought to do best.
