Video Games: Achievement/Trophy Discussion

How does everyone feel about the achievement/trophy systems on the newer systems? Do you like or dislike them? And why.

Also, what games, if any, do you have all of the achievements or trophies in?

There are reasons I like and dislike them.

I like them, because, if used correctly, can lead gamers to play in ways, or do things that, otherwise, they might not have. They're also great at showing your progress in games to friends, and even good for friendly competition.

I dislike them, because, some people see them as necessity. As in, some people will skip games altogether if they don't like the achievement/trophy lists, in fear of being unable to obtain them all. They'll also completely stop playing games they love if they have obtained them all (it's sad, but I've seen it happen).

I personally will play a game far after I get all of the achievements, if I enjoy it enough. And I will not power through a game I hate for the achievements.

You sure you got everything in fallout 3? You must have made a bunch of characters.

Very impressive list Kirby!

I kind of found myself addicted to the achievements at one point, focusing on them when I started games. But now, I went back to my old self in playing games for fun and not getting too competitve about it. I like the achievement/trophy system, it's just a cool bonus to get one for doing something. It adds extra hours of gameplay, and it makes players go back and try to get some extra points.

Playing Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas both consisted of pretty much the same daily routine.

Wake Up
Fallout 3/NV
Eat
Fallout 3/NV
Shower
Fallout 3/NV
Sleep
Repeat

I literally spent 100+ hours on both games. I thoroughly loved both of them. Probably the most hooked I've been to a series in a while.

I feel you

I probably spent the same amount of time on 3. I literally did every quest, all the dlc too.

It's kinda calming wandering around the wasteland. I'm trying to do the same in new vegas but quests get cut off so early

New Vegas did it for me, 60 hours in that game, not even close to getting done with all the missions, or at least I think. Just got the Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition with all the DLC's, 30 hours in and i'm barely on the first DLC. By far one of the best series ever made.

And on top of that, Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics were all great fun as well.

I think the original creators are trying to get the license back from bethesda to do an mmo.

Could be cool

My problem with achievements, trophies is that I wish there were many, many more. Maybe even to the point of patching in new ones. Some games had thorough checklists of ish to do and these trophies aren't really comparable to that. They're fun, but more!!

I can't wait to get a new hard drive to play this non-stop.
