Shameless US.

It's probably only well known to british people. But shameless was a tv programme set in manchester, it basically portays an alcoholic and several drug abusers. I thought it was good in the beginning but I was really young so
I don't remember much of it, after a long run they've decided to make shameless US. I think it'll be ****ing ****, it won't capture the same feel. The American accents will ruin it mostly I think. Theyre trying to turn a programme that has a very British feel into an American series. Which I dont think will work.

British shameless.

Yes, TV shows always suck when you can understand what they're actually saying.

Is that William H. Macy?

I haven't heard/seen the British version but the American one has been getting praise by American audiences.

Sure you might like it because you can relate to the British one more and the accents but I'm sure that when I look at both that I will probably like the American one more.

I can understand English accents perfectly, it's hardly forign. So that statement is ridiculous.

I think it will be good Dj, but it'll have just lost it's scummy British feel. Which I think makes it good.

Don't see it as any different then The Office.

Same general idea, but a very different comedic approach. As long as they set out and try to make their version unique, I don't see the problem.

The Office is the exception though. Usually when they make an American version of a British show it turns out bad.

I think it turns out bad when they don't intentionally "americanize" it, but instead try to keep it too faithful to the original. The Office started out this way and was kind of ****ty as a result at first, but when they started to blaze their own trail it got better.

Anyways I guess I'm just annoyed by many people's beliefs that British humor i some untouchable, brilliant thing that only high class people can appreciate. Give me Arrested Development instead any day of the week. ;)

FETCHER. 06-14-2011 09:29 AM

I never said British humour was untouchable. I said that the British feel will be gone, therefore it'll be complete different to shameless uk. So what's the point in it being called shameless?

well we have white trash here in the states so the whole scummy feel still fits. I should watch the show seeing as it already aired here in the states.

I think it's On Demand also.

When it comes to importing a foreign TV series to America, they want that "feel" changed to a way Americans can relate. When networks bring a show to America like Life on Mars? or The Office, they are buying the premise. Outside of that everything on these Americanized shows are rebuilt for the American audience. I'm not saying that's right, but that is the best way to sell this product to America. There are not many foreign shows that reach mainstream America outside speciality networks like BBC America, CBC, Telemundo, or Univision.

I can understand that, but on the same hand that's like saying programmes shown in certain countrys are targeted towards their culture and are on our screens because we can relate to them... I dunno about anyone else from the UK but I certainly can't relate to 90210 or The Hills. Or several other series for that matter.
