My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

I watch this. It's great.
Discuss.
You can probably find the episodes on Youtube and creator Lauren Faust says so too so don't feel bad.

My favourite pony is Pinkie Pie and my favourite minor character is Apple Bloom.

(Note: I'm serious. This show is fantastic, don't be fooled by the pony part. I'm not sure whether it's the brilliant characters, beautiful art style or clever scriptwriting, but it's so, so brilliant. I can understand everyone being skeptic and thinking 'oh, he's just following the brony meme' [which I don't play any part in], but at least give one episode a go. Some of you will find it good, I promise you.)

Here's a channel that provides some episodes.

my. favourite. show.
Usually when I'm stuck watching children's shows, they're so unbelievably shamelessly stupid that I want to drive my head into a wall. But, Lauren Faust always has this charn to her shows that make them extremely enjoyable. I was a big fan of The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home. I've recently converted a freind into brony-ism and I even got my mom into the show. I have no shame about it. At school, when somebody asks me what I like to whatc on TV, I say, with no trace of irony, that I absolutely adore MLP: FiM. They giggle a bit at first and whatnot and then I tell them that it might sound a little strange at first, but when you actually get into the show, you start adoring every aspect of it. The subtle humour, the cultural references and even the high quality flash animation and so many other things that have come and made the show a great one. I'm so glad it's as popular as it is.

thanks for starting this thread, by the way. I was going to start one and then I was a little ashamed of the fact that I watch a show about a toy line I liked when I was six. :p:

wooooooo rainbow dash

ThePhanastasio 09-17-2011 10:17 PM

MLP used to be my shit when I was younger.

I may actually check this out.

djchameleon 09-18-2011 08:44 AM

The only reason I'm checking this out is because of the PowerPuff Girls and Foster's connection. I had no idea about that.

Rubato 01-07-2012 08:47 AM

Introducing the man who predicted the MLP explosion before FiM aired. This might help explain a few things.

James 01-07-2012 09:26 AM

It's not as good as Adventure Time. In terms of children's TV shows.

I am male and I like this show. Your move, creep.

midnight rain 01-12-2012 05:15 AM

So I haven't actually watched this show cause i don't care enough to, but I keep seeing grown men talk about it. Is this just one of these stupid, ironic hipster things that's trending? If so, then definitely avoiding.

Rubato 01-12-2012 08:16 AM

It's one of the shows on the lighter side of life that doesn't end up being unbearably smooshy. Really I'd say most of the shows enjoyment is down to the diverse characters, they're actually three dimensional (as apposed to most of todays cartoons where they tend to just be loud and annoying to get in a few laughs) and the way they interact with each other is entertaining. I can't help feeling if the mane six were cars instead of ponies the show wouldn't be getting so much stick.

Honestly?? I feel that people who call them that are ignorant a-holes. That's how I feel.

I didn't create this show for little girls, I created it for little girls and their parents--including male parents. It only stands to reason that adult animation fans without children may like it, too.

The belief that boys shouldn't be interested in girl things is the main reason there's hardly anything decent for girls in animation--- or almost any media, for that matter. It's a backwards, sexist, outdated attitude.

I use to like them when I was 2 or 3 years old

Circe 05-16-2013 08:32 AM

Anyone heard about Equestria Girls?

I'm cautiously pessimistic right now. Definitely going to go and see it if not just so I have something to complain about for a couple of weeks.

Rule 34 - If it exists there IS porn of it.

Rule 35 - If no porn is found at the moment, it will be made.

LoathsomePete 05-16-2013 10:15 AM

Well that will at least make the porn that already exists for FiM slightly less creepy, I mean now it's just pedophiliac rather than bestial, so that's a positive step, right?

Stay away form my children.

Alright, I'll just get my opinion of the show and the fanbase out here because I'm not going to mention FiM on Music Banter outside of this thread (unless either someone questions me about my avatar or I'm still here next April and I make an entry related to it in my journal on April Fool's Day).

I'm a pretty casual fan of the show. Aside from a few shirts with some subtle references to the show that I ordered earlier this year, I don't own any merchandise. I don't force pony references into conversations and I rarely mention it on the internet. I just enjoy the show and watch some episodes whenever I feel like it because it's a refreshing change of pace from what I usually watch.

About Season 3: I thought that it was pretty damn underwhelming. The only episode that I can honestly say was good was Too Many Pinkies. Everything else that I've seen from this season was pretty forgettable. Hell, I haven't even watched the season finale yet (and I'll just say it right now: I don't give a **** about Twilight being an alicorn. She just got a pair of wings. Big ****ing whoop.). I'm probably just going to stick with the first two seasons from now on unless Season 4 ends up being good.

Now, about the fanbase: It's not as perverted as some people would like you to believe. Yes, there are some creepy individuals, but that's to be expected from a fanbase as large as the brony fanbase is.

HOWEVER: It is one of the most annoying fanbases in existence IMO. I'm actually pretty lucky in that most of my friends who are bronies are casual fans of the show, but I will admit that a lot of bronies are really annoying. I'll actually say that the FiM's fanbase is the second most annoying fandom I've seen (the most annoying being Homestuck's fanbase). Outside of watching a few fan videos (I really enjoy the Rainbow Dash Presents series), I stay away from most of the fanbase.

I'll also sum up my opinion about Equestria Girls right now: I'm not interested in it, so I won't watch it.

Surell 05-24-2013 12:48 AM

her last name is Faust, i may have to try this.

:stupid::bowdown::afro::dj::clap::clap::clap::clap :

i cant take any man seriously if they are a brony. before the internet got all politically correct on me and cyber bullying became a "serious thing" i would have told them to kill themselves.

CrazyVegn 07-08-2013 11:58 PM

When I was a kid I thought MLP was for the dumb girls.

djchameleon 07-09-2013 06:30 AM

This isn't the same MLP that you knew from when you were growing up.

While I know that probably 50% of MB hates bronies for reasons that I actually agree with (being "pathetic" isn't one of them though, as, to me, that basically boils down to "stop liking what I don't like/understand the appeal of"), this is going a bit too far.

I don't mind all bronies, some are really douchey and creepy though

Also I don't think they're pathetic, not really. Just the really dudebro-type ones are. I mean if you like something you like something who gives a ****? If someone wants to get on my dick about any of my fandoms I'd happily geld them.
