I'm pretty sure main priority is to make a fun board game, not to accurately recreate the second world war board-game style.

That's kind of what I was thinking, it's a game, games are fun. If you make a game with a rule system that allows one player to abuse then the game isn't really fun anymore.

Well, what's the point of making a WWII board game if you're not going to accurately recreate WWII? I like having to struggle as the Axis. It makes it feel like the actual Axis, who were pretty much hopeless. If the Axis were on an even footing with the Allies, then it would ruin that feeling.

Although I wouldn't mind changing it so that America had a battleship at Hawaii and a carrier on the west coast, which would be more accurate than the way it is now.

Because if you're making a war game, even one designed primarily to be fun, then WWII is a great setting for that.

Sure, but what's the point if it's obviously just a two dimensional setting with little to no relation to reality. I guess if you have no interest in history, but then why play Axis and Allies in the first place? To each his own, but it would definitely lessen the experience for me.

i used to play the PC version of Monopoly as well

but it just wasn't the same, even if you don't need to find at least 3 people to play it with

I see where you're coming from but I fall more in line with Tore and Pete in regards to the overall purpose of a game being the fun of the players.

Though, there's no reason the game can't feature custom scenarios with specific rules or deployments. Have a properly balanced game as the default standard, then for those who want a proper historical recreation including the military imbalances - slightly modified rules and starting conditions.

I know with Risk the game normally had a few different scenarios or custom options in the rules, I have to assume A&A does as well, or at least, hopefully added something of the sort in the most recent revisions.

It does.

You can play with it set to Axis advantage where the Japs begin with "super subs" and the Germans have "Jet Power"

Reviving this old, dead thang because I'm developing my own tabletop RPG system. It's something I dabble with a bit when I have the time so I don't really have a lot of documentation on it, but there is enough to get people playing. I'm currently running a campaign that uses this system.

The core rules are pretty much in place, there is a character sheet and if you're gonna run a campaign you've designed yourself and haven't settled on a system, then this might be fun. Plus, I could use some playtesters :)

Let me know if you're interested.

Are there any online table top RPGs? If so, it'd be cool to have our own MB guild or whatever. I know there are computer programs/apps to use for RPG dice rolls, so I imagine online table top RPGs must exist.

Edit: Oh, and about that old Axis and Allies debate, has anyone ever played the spinoffs? There was an updated version of the original that had artillery, destroyers, refined rules, a penalty for if either the Russians or Japanese attacked each other -- to more accurately simulate the realities of their relationship in the war, and I'm sure other things I'm forgetting. There was also an A&A game based on D-Day that was pretty fun.
