The Worst Artist in America Has Died

LeRoy Neiman, the astonishingly successful artist behind visual atrocities like these...

...has died. He was 91. I'm sad for his family and happy for him that he was able to live such a full life (and have such a full mustache), but reading his obituary has made me aware that all of the worst sports-related (and sometimes music-related) artwork I have seen hanging in people's offices was the product of one man, as opposed to some awful art factory as I might have assumed before today. Maybe somewhere out in the ether today he and Thomas Kinkade are raising a glass to terrible artwork together.

Don't you dare blame Beiber on us. Blame Canada.

Oh my god that Shaq painting is awful.

Oh, and RIP.

Holerbot6000 06-21-2012 06:53 AM

Leroy's paintings are pretty garish but they are reminiscent of a certain time and place. He did some huge paintings of casino and race track type scenes that were super detailed and kind of cool, but I do agree that, like Kincaid, he will probably go down in history more as a commercial illustrator than a capital-A artist.

That Shaq painting is so bad it looks more like Charles Barkley than Shaq.

It looks like Glen Davis, if anything. Oh wait he's scoring in the painting, nvm.

He was used to dipping them in red buckets.

I actually have an old mlb book from the 70's with Neiman paintings in the center section. I always liked his art work.

He may have been shat out into existence within our borders but if I recall correctly it was an American who looked at this pile of shit and decided to give it a record contract.

BastardofYoung 06-23-2012 02:13 PM

watched this again the other day..... makes Beiber make a bit more sense...

Janszoon 06-23-2012 05:12 PM

Don't feel bad Canada, we gave the world Scott Stapp. And of course LeRoy Neiman.

I was expecting a thread about Rob Liefeld.

I've posted this before but it deserves a repost.

I'm currently on that guy's second list of Liefeld hate and I don't feel that I've wasted any of my time. And this is a ridiculous waste of my time too. Dude has me in stitches.

Electrophonic Tonic 06-30-2012 11:37 AM

Anyone seen Top Secret...? (5:04 for this thread specifically)

Above 07-09-2012 05:55 AM

The eyes on that Shaq painting made me snort tea.
