Exo's Best of Film So Far

I haven't seen as many films as I thought I'd have seen but the year as churned out some good ones so far so i thought I'd do a list of what I've seen so far. Again, this is only what I've seen so far. I know that films like Chronicle and a great deal of foreign films should probably be on this list. Instead of calling me names you should suggest what I missed so far so i can see them. Let's do this.

This was a weird release but I know it was in theaters in January so I'm including it on my list. This is one of the best films I've seen in the last five years. It's depressing yet invigorating. Tilda Swinton got robbed by not getting a Best Actress nomination. The direction was incredible and the ending was brutally satisfying but also devastating. I haven't felt that way after a movie since Requiem for a Dream.

I loved every second of this movie. I saw it twice in five days. It is everything you want in a Wes Anderson movie and without being pretentious like things got a bit in Darjeeling. His second "kids" movie in a row was still mainly for adults but was still a great romance story between two twelve year olds. Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Ed Norton were perfectly cast in their roles. It was filled with great one liners and as always exquisite detail from Mr. Anderson.

I know this film was flawed but I'm such a sucker for space movies it's insane. Michael Fassbender was fantastic as always and I really hope Noomi Rapace gets cast in more space horror movies. Shes got such a face for it. This was also probably the best movie I saw in the theater this year. It was gorgeous.

This was the most fun I've had in a theater in a long time. I didn't get anything spoiled, going only by a good RT score and a text from my boss saying "JUST GO SEE IT". Loved it. The second half obviously is clincher on an overall amazingly entertainingly genre bender. I'll be making a blu ray purchase on this one.

I swore this movie off when I saw the previews. I said it was going to be horrible and that I wouldn't see it. Then it got good reviews. I saw and laughed my ass off. It was hilarious. This one goes with Anchorman and Step Brothers as being overall horrible films except for the resounding ability to make me laugh. Sometimes you have to just throw your opinions away and laugh and this is a great one to do so with.

One of the better low budget horror films out there. I was surprised with the original story plus some great performances by the two leads. It was suspenseful and frightening without being jumpy. Great little indie film.

Just saw this one last night. Absolutely beautiful film. The story was okay and I felt like it was rushed but my god the animation in this one is just gorgeous. Definitely one to watch on blu ray.

****ing retarded, but a good kind of retarded. That is all.

Way too short but Jason Segal's character was too silly and kind not to love. The ending got a little too ahead of itself but it was better than most films I saw this year.

Great psychological thriller that dragged on a bit too long. The acting is what really got this on the list. Plus, I'm a sucker for psych/thrillers.

Barely missed the cut

Bernie - Jack Black was great but I just was a bit bored by the middle and wished it to end.

Five Year Engagement - This one totally took a nose dive for 40 minutes in the middle. Didn't laugh once after a great opening.

SUCKED

Wanderlust - Besides the scene where Paul Rudd talks to himself in the mirror...which is solely because Rudd is hilarious...this was one of the least funny comedies I've seen in a while.

Dark Shadows - What a boring screenplay. The guy who wrote this one needs to practice more. Even Depp couldn't get me to wish it would end.

Not a bad list, at least I pretty much agree with your top 4 with the exception I haven't seen We Need To Talk About Kevin yet. I also noticed Bernie in your list of films which almost made the cut, but that one's from 2011, I think? If 2011 movies can make your list, then I probably would've added Midnight in Paris to it. :)

That's weird. I only saw Bernie in the theater like a month ago. Didn't realize it was that old.

Good list, I've only seen Prometheus, The Cabin in the Woods and Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie but I'm going to see Moonrise Kingdom this weekend and also hopefully catch Bernie before it leaves theaters.

The Innkeepers definitely has me intrigued, but I'm going to have to wait until that's out on DVD or Netflix.

a very nice list indeed :)

i still have not seen the "Kevin" flick or Moonrise Kingdom....it's weird i really have to be in the mood for Wes Anderson.....i love everything he has done so far and i'm sure i will like this one.....just need to be in the right mood

as for Bernie....yeah i saw it about two weeks ago here in the theater and was surprised to see that its official release was in 2011

and i'm with pete about the Innkeepers :)

exo,

no mention of "the dictator?" Has some really aggressive jokes, could say overly daring but when they worked they were hilarious.

That could have made the list if I had seen it. I'm not big on Sascha besides Borat so I had no interest seeing it. I probably will eventually though.
