Today in yes, really: Disney buys Lucasfilm, announces Star Wars: Episode 7 for 2015

That transition will begin immediately with this next Star Wars project, whose title confirms that it will take place after the original trilogy—though of course, there's certainly nothing in this early information about it continuing with the same actors, or anything else regarding what form it will take. All that is known at this point: George Lucas no longer has any control over the Star Wars universe beyond being a "creative consultant," Disney now has the power to keep making Star Wars movies, TV shows, and whatever else it wants from here until infinity, and in 2015, you're going to get the first of what sounds like many more Star Wars films to come, picking up after the events of Return Of The Jedi and continuing ever outward from there. Take a moment.

I don't think the IP could get any worse, so it has that going for it. I mean all our expectations are so lowered after getting kicked in the balls 3 times (or 4 if you're old [sorry Jansz]) in a row that the movie cannot disappoint any more.

I mean I don't think Disney will do a worse job than what Lucas did with the prequel trilogy and Return of the Jedi. Return is one of those movies that you kind of like if you're young, but really doesn't hold up when you get older. I was poking fun at your age by stating that you may have already realized that fact in 1983 when the film was released.

Return is brilliant compared to the prequel films.

Honestly, this isn't bad news for me. With a new director and certainly a determination on Disney's part not to screw it up (they're in this for the long hall, and know people want quality, or at entertaining films), and most importantly NO input from Lucas, the new films could be a decent way of bringing Star Wars into the next generation properly.

But, no, I still love Return of the Jedi. It's probably my favorite Star Wars movie to be honest. And, yes, Phantom Menace was kind of a disappointment in retrospect, but I liked the other two prequels a lot.

I'm definitely with you on your other point though, I definitely think this could be the thing the Star Wars fans are desperate for. So many places to go, so many extended universe stories to choose, the sky's the limit.

Disney = just the thing Star Wars fans are looking for?
