Default Official Academy Awards 2013 Thread

The Oscars are tonight! I know this thread is a tad late but for those who don't want to watch it or don't care for it then this will be a good place to see who won what without much effort. I'll be updating as the night goes on. I've only ween three best picture nominees but the real awards I'm pushing for is Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman for their roles in The Master. I really hope they win.

I also hope Seth Macfarlane is funny.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Christoph Waltz Holy ****. Waltz and Tarantino are officially even more awesome.

Best Short Film Animated - Paperman

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year - Brave

Best Achievement in Cinematography - Life of Pi

Best Achievement in Visual Effects - Life of Pi

Best achievement in Costume Design - Anna Karenina

Best Achievement in Make-up - Les Miserables

Best Live Action Short Film - Curfew

Best Documentary Short Film - Inocente

Best Documentary - Searching for Sugarman Yeah!

Best Foreign Language Film- Amour

Best Achievement in Sound Mixing - Les Miserables

Best Achievement in Sound Editing - Skyfall

Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Anne Hathaway

Best Achievement in Editing - Argo

Best Achievement in Production Design - Lincoln

Best Original Score - Life of Pi

Best Original Song - Skyfall

Best Adapted Screenplay - Argo

Best Original Screenplay - F*CKING TARANTINO B*TCH

Best Director - Ang Lee Good for him. I wanted Haneke to win though.

Best Actress - Jennifer Lawrence That b*tch just fell up them stairs. Bwuahahahahahaha.

Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis I was hoping for Phoenix but I can't fault DDL. He's a God.

Best Picture - Argo

Wow... Argo got best picture? What were the old white fucks who actually vote for these things getting tired of everyone bitching about how predictable they are and decided to throw us a curveball? Not that I'm annoyed or anything, but I always thought there was some law that stated that if a movie stars Daniel Day-Lewis it must be given Best Picture.

I finally saw ARGO last night. It was certainly entertaining and well done, but Lincoln really surpassed it in every way imaginable to me. I really thought Sally Field deserved the Oscar as well as DDL. She had been away from the spotlight for so long and she really played an engrossing part in the movie. And i've had it out for her since Smokey and the Bandit.

Eh it depends. I've heard it's enjoyable for the visuals alone but it's pretty heavy handed in its religious themes that can make it hard for people to look past. It seems like one of those movies I'd want to trip to for the visuals alone, where the dialogue and character building is just background noise.

I am a little bummed that ParaNorman didn't get Best Animated Film, because it was a hell of a lot better than Brave, which is honestly my least favorite Pixar movie now (even more than Cars)

Ah right, I shall get round to watching it anyway. I'm not into religion myself but I don't know how interested I would be regarding a film about it!

What! I thought brave was damn awesome. I honestly thought it was a great film. Why didn't you like it?

It just seemed pretty basic, like a Disney fairytale, which is fine in its own right, but I've come to expect more than that from a Pixar movie, especially when it's the first one with a female protagonist.

I don't go that far into movies, I don't know much about the different aspects that make it up/good. I just found it was very well researched in terms of actual Scotland and I thought the film was pretty funny. In terms of the actual storyline I thought the whole bear part was pretty crappy but only realised so after my second watch. Apart from that I found it hilarious.

I feel like this year (I don't usually watch the Oscars so I'm not sure about other years), there were only a handful of films being noticed for the major awards.
Life of Pi and Argi and Lincoln and a few other ones. Does anyone else feel like this to me?
For all of the films that come out within a year, and all of the ones my boyfriend has taken me to see (since I don't usually watch movies at all), I was pretty surprised to see I hadn't seen most of them.
