Trailer didn't really impress me. Is it similar to The Blindness? I enjoyed that one. Anyway I'll give it a go, thanks for the rec.

Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face)

French horror from the 60s, great, creepy film. Pretty influential too.

They might be good films, but there's lots of gore in them, which I loathe. You might think I'm nuts, but I found "The Blair Witch Project" amazing: no sophistication of FX at all, no gore either, and then it left me wondering... the 2nd part was despicable though.

I'll go with The Others, Kairo, (a Japanese one), Stir of Echoes and Hombre Mirando al Sudeste (Man Facing Southeast), an enthralling Argentinian movie. These ones left me wondering, and so much. So, what are those movies that made you unable to doze off for entire nights?

Horror, without gore?

Throwing up watching a 'mystery'?

This whole post is a conundrum.
:bonkhead:

At any rate, I would suggest Evil Dead (2013), The Others,The Cabin in the Woods, stuff like that.
imdb will serve you well... find what you like, then look for related things there.

LAWL what!?!?!?!

why would you suggest the remake of Evil Dead? that shit has some gruesome gringe worthy gore type scenes. Definitely wouldn't be his thing.

It's not a conundrum at all. Poe or Lovecraft wrote horror stories and there was absolutely no gore whatsoever in them.
So yes indeed: horror, without gore.
"A Tale of 2 Sisters" (I've seen the Korean version) is a flawless example of this.

DoesntReallyMatter 03-04-2014 02:04 AM

Poe did a movie?
Wow.

IvanMC 03-04-2014 10:14 PM

No, he did horror without gore.

The Haunting of Julia starring Mia Farrow. Also, Kwaidan, directed by Kobayashi.

The Haunting of Julia/Full Circle:

Kwaidan:

I'll also give a special mention to Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, because a couple of those scared the living shit out of me.

Yeah, that trailer looks innocent enough, but there are a couple that are just...dear God.

I can't say I liked the film. At all. Pretty ****ing disturbing, gruesome, and just not pleasant. I don't think 5 minutes went by where I wasn't wincing or cringing or just fidgeting from discomfort. But, since that's what the film makers set out to do I have to give them kudos for accomplishing it well. If you're looking for a gory horror film that will turn your guts, this is it. Don't expect to sleep well.

I love that movie but that's completely not the type of movies that are being mentioned in a thread like this.

I had totally missed the bit where he said excluding gore. Still a recommended horror film, if you're into gore.

That aside, Let the Right One In is a good film. More of a drama really. The original is Swedish but the American remake is pretty much spot for spot the same movie just in English. Still quite a bit of gore but a good, eerie horror film all the same.
