The Arsenio Hall Show

I'm mostly interested in the 2013 revamp that is happening now but if anybody wants to talk about how his old show was not better than that of Carson, Fallon, Kimmel, Leno, Letterman, or O'Brien (listed alphabetically) then please explain that to me.

The only reason that Arsenio isn't on top is because we live in a racist show-biz world and Amerikkka doesn't tolerate black late night talk show hosts.

Here are some music related highlights from Arsenio's recent effort:

I don't even know what channel/time his show is on. There has been like zero advertising of it.

I randomly stumbled on the comeback from the internet. But CBS is apparently producing it, no idea where/when to see it on actual TV.

The Batlord 01-07-2014 10:04 AM

It's on the CW. Hence why no one knows about it. It's pretty much the ass end of network TV.

Makes sense. Arsenio has always embraced controversial topics like race and politics and, really, is he even white?!

Dr_Rez 01-07-2014 10:19 AM

He looks like an alien now.

anticipation 01-07-2014 10:21 AM

I tried to watch but his fingers are just too ****ing long for me to sit there for more than a few minutes at a time. It does make for a great background soundtrack while cooking though.

Engine 01-07-2014 10:22 AM

unlike this?

Oh god, you're right. They're freakish. It's like he could grab my entire face, stick his fingers into my my eyes, down into my soul, and pluck it out, leaving me nothing but an empty shell. Creepy.

Best **** on right now. Possibly best **** ever. He does the same thing every single night and yet it's always fresh.

This is a 15 year old joke from In Living Color. The fingers are pretty damn long though.

He's got the same hands as ET.

Plankton 01-07-2014 11:15 AM

Dude looks like the lovechild of Rue Paul, and Bootsy Collins.

Engine 01-07-2014 11:18 AM

racists

Plankton 01-07-2014 11:21 AM

Nope.

Engine 01-07-2014 11:24 AM

I was talking about Conan O'Brien fans.

edit: maybe 'racist' is the wrong word. I only meant to say they have bad taste in comedy.

edit2: Craig Ferguson also sucks I mean. All late night talk show hosts are pretty much horribly unfunny

S'all good.

Not to pull this into Conan Land, but I just watched him for the first time last night. Tim Olyphant was on and had me crackin up.

Yeah, sorry. I shouldn't judge.. I don't even watch this stuff on a regular basis.

I just got excited when I saw that Arsenio is back b/c he was my favorite in the late 80s. Letterman was the only funny one and Arsenio was the only relevant one. And they all seemed to get less funny as the decades passed.

Burning Down 01-07-2014 11:53 AM

I haven't watched Letterman in so long. Actually I did watch it briefly last year but that's only because my friend's band was on the show.

Bu yao. Conan is brilliant. He had a potted plant shoot some dude. How is that not comic genius? And Craig has a dancing horse. That's ****ing art, dude.

Sparky 01-08-2014 05:23 PM

check him out on the snoop dogg show(another very great talk show)

James 01-08-2014 05:26 PM

I am not American so most of this goes over my head but Craig Ferguson is from my home town so he gets my vote.

Paul Smeenus 01-08-2014 05:46 PM

CF's show is dreadfully unfunny when he's doing prepared skits but can be funny as feck when they're just improvising. Overall Letterdude is my favorite, esp. when he's pissed off about something, plus Schaefer has the best band (LOVE Will Lee). Kimmel is a bit too smug for me. Conan comes in a very close second for me, and I mean very close. Leno's show SUCKS and he's justly vilified IMO, but I saw him live in Vegas in '06 doing stand-up and he was outstanding. Hands down, HANDS DOWN my least favorite is Fallon, I think he is a fecking IDIOT and have NO idea why he's popular. Arsenio was always plastic, phony and forced for me, I never enjoyed his show. Carson, at the top of his game (which had kinda passed him by the time he gave the show to Leno), was the master IMO. And no one person, before or since, could launch a comedian's career like Johnny. If he asked you over to the seat next to him after your set, it was like hitching your wagon to the stars. Just look at the current crop of talk show hosts, how many of them got their big break on the Tonight Show.

djchameleon 01-08-2014 06:11 PM

I can't stand Letterman or Leno.

Kimmel is decent.

Conan is brillant and I used to watch Craig Ferguson and he's pretty top notch with his puppets and ****. I never watched Fallon but I love that he has The Roots as his house band.

**** yeah. I have love for Leno just because his Headlines bit puts me in stitches. But I can't stand Letterman. A. He isn't funny. Has anyone in the history of time ever laughed at one of his lists? They actively suck the funny out of any room where they play on TV. And B. He's such a superior douche. I just want to punch him in the face anytime he ever opens his mouth.

djchameleon 01-09-2014 01:10 PM

Leno is on my ****list for what he did to Conan and Letterman is just a skivvy dude. Sexually abusing the women that work for him.

Engine 01-09-2014 05:59 PM

To me, late night talk shows are where comedians go to sell out and die. The nightly opening segments of topical humor is a formula designed for failure, network TV standards force the hosts to be bland and to rely on silly trademark schticks, and the scripted celebrity interviews are infuriatingly transparent and dull.

I mostly like Arsenio (in the 90s and now) because he talks seriously about race and other issues that all the white hosts don't touch. Or maybe they do now. I wouldn't know because I gave up watching them years ago.

The Top 10 lists are dumb. I swear that Letterman uses a laugh track with them.

Which is another reason why Craig Ferguson is amazing. He just rambles on about nonsense with his guests and if he feels like it he might eventually get around to talking about whatever the guests are there to promote in the first place.

Engine 01-10-2014 03:40 PM

Okay, okay, I'm being too harsh on these people.
Really I just wanted to point out that Arsenio is back and I love him because, without him, I wouldn't have gotten to see stuff like this when I was a kid..

which helped make me the enlightened citizen that I am today.

Oh, and this..

Wait a Minute

I strongly disagree I'm African American maybe time has passed him by we are talking some 20 years later TV has definitley changed these days and we now have a new generation coming up who are totally obvilious about the past thats what Arsenio Hall is up against.
