Black Mirror

Anyone seen it? What do you think of it?

James 02-21-2014 05:25 AM

The second episode of season one where they all live in a world fueled by entertainment and advertising is bloody excellent.

Tristesse 02-21-2014 07:07 AM

That one is great, Brooker is excellent at taking the modern world and creating dark possible futures based on it.

I thought the third episode in the first season was really well made (where everyone has a chip in their brain that records everything they see/hear), I think Robert Downey Jr. has bought the rights to it and is planning to make it into a film.

Exo 02-21-2014 02:49 PM

As an American let me just say screw you UK! I want a way to see this damn thing.

Tristesse 02-21-2014 03:02 PM

Does 4OD not work in the US?

Exo 02-21-2014 03:29 PM

I have no idea what that is.

Tristesse 02-21-2014 03:43 PM

Black Mirror - 4oD - Channel 4

Channel 4 on demand = 4OD

Mr. Charlie 02-21-2014 08:58 PM

Black Mirror was pretty good, but I prefer Brooker's 'wipe' programmes on the BBC. They're hilarious.

Tristesse 02-22-2014 06:59 AM

Out of the stuff I've seen Brooker actually appear on, 10 O'Clock Live has been my favourite. Although that might have been because David Mitchell is one of my fave comedians, I am deeply in love with Lauren Laverne, and I can stand Jimmy Carr.

**** yeah. Top 3 episodes of season 3?

Mine were

1. Nosedive
2. Hated in the Nation
3. Shut Up and Dance

Chula Vista 12-21-2017 08:36 PM

Hated in the Nation is my favorite of all of Black Mirror. Holds up to lots of repeated viewings.

"Got him".

Rue 12-24-2017 12:51 PM

I haven't watched it. It's one of the few shows I'm interested in watching, though.

not bad, but no concepts that shook me

I'll admit it dragged and the concept was fairly generic, but I still thought it was tense **** and had some amazing moments that had me ****ting myself.

the other one i saw that ****ed with me was White Christmas

the opening just had me laughing at the delicious dark humor

but the part about torturing the computer intelligence with leaving her in an empty room for months

just as a concept that got to me

Imagine being trapped in a place where you couldn't do nothing but be idle, with nothing to keep your mind preoccupied. That whole set up had me anxious just thinking about it. I mean I've seen a few videos on YT of how the mind reacts to being isolated from people and things for more than a week. And that **** looked nerve wracking. As much as I loved the ideas it was exploring in that episode, I found it wholly inconsistent. It had some great ideas and moments that really got you thinking, but a lot of it dragged and felt unnecessary.

Ninetales 12-26-2017 08:37 PM

1. san junipero
2. white bear
3. shut up and dance

white Christmas a close #4

Agree to disagree. Imagine if here on MB we could all simply blank out members who annoy or piss us off? We'd all eventually log in one day to find this:

She screamed and he warned her but she kept on screaming so zinged her with 3 weeks. She came back screaming again so he gave her another 6 months. That broke her and she was a model AI from then on.

The freakiest part is when the 2 cops gave Joe 1,000 years at the end!
:yikes:

Just watched Metalhead and I'm sure that you all saw the symbolism at the end. So what do you think she did?

Spoiler for My Theory:
Maybe she was an animal abuser? Dog fighting ring operator? I think the fact that it's in black and white is significant. Also since my quoted post is so cryptic I should probably explain my theory better.

The ending with the teddy bears was a reference to the concept of White Bear which I think implies that the whole episode was an extension of White Bear where people were heavily punished for their actions in a perpetual and purgatorial way. We put chips in dogs. Is this our White Bear scenario?

OccultHawk 01-16-2018 05:52 PM

I just finished Season 4.

I would say don’t open this thread if you don’t want spoilers.

In Metalhead I just thought she was in a post-apocalyptic world with some weird dog like AI running amok. However, I read there are deleted scenes where the dogs are controlled by humans via a distant remote control. That gives credence to your theory.

Finding that shotgun suicide corpse in that bed was wild. Reminded me of something from the novel On the Beach.

I loved the monochrome looking black and white.
