Name movies and/or books that you've.......

Watched or read 3 or more times. And for movies it has to be "seen in a theater".

I saw The Dark Knight at the theater 3 times and I've read this 3 times.

I've never seen a movie more than once in a theatre, but I've watched O Brother, Where Art Thou? countless times.

I've read A Clockwork Orange and A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man a few times each as well. I've also reread a bunch of Kafka's short stories.

EPOCH6 12-11-2014 10:37 AM

I've read Carl Sagan's COSMOS probably at least 3 times, some chapters half a dozen times. Only movie I've seen 3 times or more in theaters was Avatar, which I don't even really care much for and haven't watched since. I just kept getting invited to go see it by friends and family, that **** was huge when it came out.

I can't remember the last time I saw a movie more than twice in the theater and I rarely read books more than once, but I have read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series numerous times, probably four or five.

Frownland 12-11-2014 11:23 PM

I've tried and failed to read Finnegan's Wake at least five times.

I'm still planning on giving Ulysses a shot, but Finnegan's Wake sounds brutal.

"Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Neuromancer" are both books that I've read a whole bunch of times.

I've seen "The Warriors" quite a few times back to back, even if not in a theater. But my crowning accomplishment in movie endurance is watching John Carpenter's "Dark Star" three times in a row.

DeadChannel 01-04-2015 05:12 PM

I love neuromancer so ****ing much. So amazing.

"Naked Lunch" might be the book I've reread most, several times I started all over immediately after finishing. It's so full of weird and hilarious situations, that it never runs out of surprises.

I don't go to the cinema, since movies in Germany are dubbed and it sounds terrible, even if done well.

I feel pretty much the same way about A Clockwork Orange as you do about Naked Lunch. I first read it at 14 years old and I think I picked it up at just the right time in addition to being a phenomenal book.

I had something even more similar with Hesse's "Steppenwolf". I read it the first time when I was about twelve and then read it once or twice a year until I was eighteen or nineteen, always discovering something new.
But I generally enjoy reading books several times, I've read all my favourite books about three or four times and especially beloved ones like "Steppenwolf", "Naked Lunch" or "Invitation To A Beheading" more than ten times.

That book turned the world upside down when it first came out. I can't think of another book that had such an impact across numerous generations like it immediately did.
