Jon Stewart's final show

Stayed up last night to watch it and it was great. Funny as hell and often times very emotional. And it ended on a perfect note.

Spoiler for Spoilers:
Highlights for me.

- The extended segment where pretty much everyone who's ever worked with him on the show did brief but hilarious mini-segments. Capping it off was Steven Colbert sitting down with Jon, and after some funny back and forth, Colbert launched into a really heartfelt thank you to Jon on behalf of everyone and lauded him for being so great at what he does. He and Jon hugged only to have everyone come out on stage and join in in a huge pogo hug as they broke to commercial. Very cool.

- All of the politicos and others that Jon has trashed through the years doing cameos to give him crap. Hilary wishing he'd stay on for the rest of the campaign and John McCain working a Jon Stewart puppet while telling him "so long Jackass" being highlights.

- The really long backstage tracking shot, ala the Goodfellas Copacabana scene (along with one of the songs from the soundtrack), where Jon introduced everyone who worked behind the scenes on the show. Again, really funny. Especially when Scorcese shows up in a dressing room and warns Jon not to use any of his bits.

- His "bull****" monologue. Classic Stewart.

- The show ending with Bruce Springsteen and the E street Band in studio playing a really cool song (don't know the title but the lyrics fit the mood) and then segueing right into a condensed version of Born to Run while Jon and all of his colleagues and staff came out and started dancing up a storm with hugs galore. The place was going NUTS! Song ends, Jon gets up on stage and hugs the band, walks up to the mic, and says: "Thank you. Goodnight." while everyone is still going bonkers.

So freaking killer.

Love the Jon. I've probably seen 80% of the Daily Show, but I missed it last night. Such a class act, but I can't watch him without thinking of this:

I couldn't watch it seeing as I was at bandcamp, but I'm watching it tonight. I've been a big fan for a few years now, and I'm really sad that he's leaving.

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 01:51 PM

I thought it was horrendously boring. Spending 30 minutes or more to briefly facetime everyone who has ever worked on the show may have been a nice gesture to his team but for his viewers it was about as exciting as a high school graduation. Very disappointing.

How often did you watch the show? I'm guessing every once in a while.

Bull****. I'm a longtime viewer and I loved it. And based on everything I've read today so did everyone else.

Man, you're such a buzzkill.

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 02:03 PM

Sorry but it sucked. He's been great over the years but that was boring as hell.

Your opinion is wrong and that is a fact.

It was made for his staff not for his viewers. Since I didn't work on the show I was, you know, bored.

Exo 08-07-2015 02:09 PM

Well, what exactly did you expect to happen?

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 02:14 PM

I expected him to make good jokes, interview someone, and then say thanks for a great 16 years.

Oh, so the same thing he's been doing for 16 years with a little nod to it being his last taping at the end of the show? Are you serious right now?

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 02:21 PM

Yes.

Exo 08-07-2015 02:24 PM

Okay well have fun being the only person with your take on the show. You're entitled to it. I just think it's misguided. You can't have the last show of such a long running program be the EXACT same as previous episodes with a little nod to the situation at the end. It's be the most distracting thing ever. So many people came out of that show and wanted to thank him and remember the past 16 years.

If all you wanted was an interview and a few jokes then the 2nd to last show was your last. You shouldn't have even watched last night.

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 02:46 PM

Well, if you want to incorporate EVERYBODY you better write some really clever skits, not just I'm reporting on Jeb Bush *smiles and waves*. WTF? Like I said before that's what they do at high school graduations. Everyone just took a turn smiling for the camera. Yawn.

EPOCH6 08-07-2015 02:48 PM

His chat with Stephen Colbert had my gut in a knot, Colbert's praise was spot-on and felt very genuine. Seeing those guys have a very real moment of closure together after 10 years of doing their thing in the talk show circuit was cool to see.

I fixed that to fit the situation.

Frownland 08-07-2015 02:53 PM

I'm sure he's not the only who felt that way. Quit being a bunch of drama queens.

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 02:54 PM

Yeah. When I watch TV I want to be entertained not bored. Is that OK with you?

My bad, thought it was clear that I was mocking Chula's overreaction with that first post.

It's fine with me. It just doesn't make any sense and I'm commenting on it.

It wasn't

*shrug* I thought it was too irrational to be taken seriously.

Anyways

Very sad to see Jon go. Didn't get the chance to watch the final episode yet but I'm sure Comedy Central will be bombarding us with reruns and I'll be sure to catch it soon.

OccultHawk 08-07-2015 03:20 PM

Get that fast forward button ready!

100% agreed. And the group pogo hug immediately after was simply killer.
