cops

is it just me or is this the greatest reality tv show of all time?

i feel like watching cops, through the various cities and eras that it was filmed, gives you a truly authentic slice of american pie.

5 Things You Didn't Know About COPS | Mental Floss

what do you guys think?

Frownland 08-26-2015 07:51 PM

Even though I'm quite certain that it's staged, yes it is quite entertaining.

Black Francis 08-26-2015 08:07 PM

His bit about cops is exactly why i like cops, not even the blurred faces can hide the shame.

I haven't seen the show in years, but yea, it's probably the best reality tv show next to Flavor of love.

It's real you goddamn skeptic. The show has been around for EVER and was one of the first legit reality shows. Nothing is staged. The only thing that is skewed is that these camera crews spend weeks with the officers. Incidents don't happen as often as they look like they do.

I love the show by the way.

Justthefacts 08-26-2015 08:31 PM

I actually got arrested just to be on cops.

The Batlord 08-26-2015 08:34 PM

I struck my mother in the face with a hot iron after smoking crystal meth just to be on COPS.

I'm skeptical of any "reality" show. Some of it even most of it might be real but I doubt it's all real. What does air time have to do with anything? They still have to keep their ratings up to remain on air. It may have started 100% legit, but nowadays it's highly doubtful.

That show just annoys me, I'd rather watch the animal police shows when they get people doing things I consider bad.

That show is on Spike. Name one other show on Spike besides American Ninja Warrior. I don't think Cops has to worry about rating. Also, the show is pretty simple. We follow cops. You don't see the following the Lincoln, Nebraska PD. You see them in high crime/party areas. There is plenty of crazy sh*t to film.

It's not staged.

words cannot adequately express my hatred for your reality tv preferences

Frownland 08-26-2015 09:47 PM

The show has writers. I also wonder a lot if people do the extra crazy shit if they're doing it because of the cops or if it's because they're on COPS and want to get on tv. That's real time composition. Quite sure they're all legit people and not necessarily actors though.

Some of the early seasons were clearly 100% reality because so many of them had 10 minutes of bs filler with weak traffic stops and interactions with the public that don't even lead to anything. I think that's changed, though.

did you read the article i posted?

Quote:

The COPS crew doesn't just show up at a random police precinct; they only film on location when they're invited by either a city's mayor, police chief or other official. Upon receiving such an invite, the producers of the show meet with the local law enforcement officials and then ride on patrol for several different shifts to see if the area meets the "production needs" of the show. (Translation: there must be some sort of criminal action worth filming. There have been several occasions when the crew spent three or four days riding with the local constables only to find that the biggest crimes in town were parking infractions.) Once an area is deemed suitable for filming, all the proper contracts are signed, and a two-man COPS crew rides in each police car. In one-person cars, the camera operator rides shotgun while the sound mixer sits in the back seat. In two-officer cars, both crew members sit in the back. They both wear ballistic resistant vests while on the job. Surprisingly, the only major injuries suffered by COPS crew members in 20 years of filming have been slipping and falling while running through back yards in the dark, and being hit by flying objects when filming an angry crowd.

they obviously pick more interesting footage for the show. that's not the same thing as being staged.

Frownland 08-26-2015 10:20 PM

Writers for the show isn't vague, it means that at least some of it is scripted. What I described with the real time composition joke (should've added a smiley for TH, my bad) was that the criminals aren't necessarily genuine in a lot of cases from what I see.

I never really trusted the cops before, why would I want to start now? I'm also weary of trusting executives trying to keep the show as popular as it is by keeping it interesting.

It's staged, just like the moon landing.

I'd rather watch Chrisley Knows Best than Cops.

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 10:25 PM

@ frown lol you just refuse to admit whenever you're wrong about something

implying that its somehow scripted cause they have 'writers' is pretty ridiculous considering that you also said it's probably all real people and not actors... so what does somebody show up to the scene of the crime ahead of time and read the criminals the script? or what. ****ing frownland...

Frownland 08-26-2015 10:37 PM

I'm a little fishy about the criminals not ever looking at the camera. You haven't proved me wrong at all mate, you've simply misrepresented my smaller points and called them ridiculous. There's a name for that.

Staaaaaaaaaged.

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 10:47 PM

i didn't prove you wrong... it's not my job to prove you wrong. i was just mocking you. and you didn't prove it's staged.... just threw a bunch of vague bull**** out there

anyway this thread is about the quality of the show, not your fake skeptic penn & teller wannabe bs

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:01 PM

Writers...write scripts. Surprising innit.

"I've been on the force for 15 years and 2 and a half months. It's an invigorating experience, knowing that I can help the community. Cops are great and you I don't understand why anyone would think we don't tell the truth. Hey look, a convenient and seedy looking dude, let's go check it out."

Every. Damn. Time. (mostly)

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 11:17 PM

yawn

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:19 PM

Fwiw I think their writing is pretty awesome once the action hits.

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 11:33 PM

god is the greatest writer of them all

not sure what is so hard to believe about crackheads and whores and **** like that acting a fool and getting arrested. you prolly just base your expectations of human behavior on your own suburban upbringing. check your white middle class privilege frownland

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:35 PM

It ain't just drug addicts. You sure you've seen more than one episode of the show?

The show's about as reliable as anything else on Fox.

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 11:42 PM

look frownland imma have to ask you to either give me a specific example of a scene from cops that you think is staged or stop derailing my thread with your nonsense

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:43 PM

What did you expect? A circle jerk?

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 11:54 PM

no... i'm saying i've heard your opinion on the show being staged 'cause they have writers' and cause people will act crazy to get on tv or whatever but if that's your entire case then i'd just assume move on as i know you will never admit you are wrong and neither will i.

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:56 PM

So be it. I don't find it genuine.

fyi: Playwrights write scripts, writers ... books. http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/...ps52fe78c8.gif Surprising innit.

John Wilkes Booth 08-27-2015 12:02 AM

so be it.

Frownland 08-27-2015 12:04 AM

You just trust the cops' side of the story because you're white.

Neapolitan 08-27-2015 12:09 AM

No would be great, if a playwright of Cops gets busted for possession of narcotics as he is writing the script to Cop.... the cops could bust through his door as typing away in his wife-beater (A-shirt). http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...Typewriter.gif
