Jesus f*cking Christ, just talk about movies. F*ck. The year changes when it changes.

Yes, use that wiki link I posted in one of my posts that shows all the films from 2007 if you don't remember.

Choose any movie you......**** you're probably trolling me. Nevermind.

No. I just wanted clarification. That's all. Just seems like a "last film you've seen" thread.

Except it isn't about the last film you've seen, that thread ends up having discussions outside of the last film you have seen. This concentrates on specific years. There is a difference.

bob. 09-27-2016 04:19 PM

With Exo on this..I loved the Simpsons movie. Ki I think from time to time we will pick a year and discuss the film that year.

I ask got 2003 next. I have a major bitch fest about that year!

djchameleon 09-27-2016 04:20 PM

yeah we can do 2003 tomorrow. I will post them up for discussion. In the OP, I will put a list of the years we already discussed so that we don't re-tread the same years over and over again.

Janszoon 09-27-2016 04:59 PM

I took a picture of the sunset by my office last week that I think was the true best picture of the year.

Noted!

I feel like I messed that up a bit in the OP but yes good to keep in mind.

2004's Best Picture Nominations.(bolded was the best picture winner that year)

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Lost in Translation
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Mystic River
Seabiscuit

Lost in Translation obviously got robbed this year. I didn't see Master and Commander, Mystic River or Seabiscuit though.

Here is a list of all 2003 films just in case you need a refresher.

Frownland 09-28-2016 10:07 AM

Of the noms, obviously Lost in Translation but I totally understand why they chose LOTR. For the overall year, I'll have to go with The Return.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-28-2016 10:12 AM

The Room

I haven't made it through a full viewing of The Room.

I have only seen clips here and there.

Do yourself a favor and watch it fully. At least once.

Exo 09-28-2016 09:39 PM

Lost in Translation should have won that year hands down. Very few films feel that candid and realistic. I feel that the "romance" between the two characters was genuine and really heartfelt. Really hits you hard when you're not sure what direction your life is going in. Makes you feel good.

Again, here are my favorite movies of that year, excluding LIT and LOTR with films in bold being true favorites...

Finding Nemo
Capturing the Friedmans
Bus 174
The Station Agent (This was filmed where I live)
American Splendor
The Triplets of Belleville
City of God
28 Days later
Far From Heaven
Mystic River
Kill Bill Vol 1
Master and Commander
The Five Obstructions
A Tale of Two Sisters
21 Grams
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
25th Hour
Bubba Ho-Tep
House of Sand and Fog
Irreversible
Elephant
Dogville
Oldboy
11:14
A Mighty Wind
Open Water
Touching the Void

Frownland 09-28-2016 09:43 PM

Have you seen Time of the Wolf?

One of the few Haneke films I have yet to see.

I love all of these:

American Splendor
The Triplets of Belleville

Kill Bill Vol 1
Bubba Ho-Tep
Oldboy

Open Water

And I'd also add Bad Santa to the list.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-29-2016 05:38 AM

In all seriousness, mine would be Kill Bill vol.1, although it doesn't seem (on paper, at least) to be that great of a year in films. Bad Santa is great though.

Call me weird, but I thought Bad Santa was just OK.

Pretty good for mainstream American humour though, so I see the hype.

I've never thought of Terry Zwigoff as particularly mainstream to be honest.

Frownland 09-29-2016 12:33 PM

I would consider Bad Santa a mainstream film.

I guess it ended up becoming popular.

Damn.

Quote:

Bad Santa, Zwigoff's fourth film, was his most mainstream, following the limited releases of Crumb and Ghost World. The original screenplay was written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Prior to filming, Ethan and Joel Coen and Zwigoff did rewrites on the script,[3] although by WGA rules, they were uncredited.

I remember it getting very heavily marketed as well in terms of TV ads. That's a pretty big element too.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-29-2016 01:52 PM

The sequel is out soon. I hope it's as good, but I have my doubts.

Frownland 09-29-2016 01:54 PM

For some reason, I was under the impression that they already made one.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-29-2016 02:06 PM

They have, it's just not out yet.

Frownland 09-29-2016 02:21 PM

That was a bad joke 2.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-29-2016 02:22 PM

I missed the original.

You've never listened to Manowar? You might wanna fix that.

Don't remind me of all the times I've tried (like, four).

I hate having to make excuses to be able to enjoy things that suck in actuality.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 09-29-2016 02:56 PM

Even if those things are incredibly catchy and make you want to sign at the top of your lungs?
