Your Favourite Twilight Zone Episodes
Most of us have I think seen The Twilight Zone, and most if not all will agree it was incredible television. What are your favourite episodes? Spoiler alert: the series (the original anyway) is over fifty years old now, so if you haven't seen it do yourself a favour: plotlines may be revealed here so don't complain you ain't seen it yet. ;)
Dead Run: From the 80s revival. A down-at-heel truck driver finds unexpected work ferrying souls to Hell, but should they all be going there? To See the Invisible Man: A superb one, again from the 80s series, in which a future punishment is being marked with a symbol which ostracises you from society. Nobody will talk to, interact with, or even acknowledge your existence. Five Characters in Search of an Exit: Incredible revelation at the end when you realise who and what the five characters actually are (60s series) Time Enough at Last: A fussy man who never has time to read the books he wants to gets his wish when the world is destroyed and he is the only survivor. But as usual, there's a twist in the tale ... (60s series) The Hitch-Hiker: A woman is terrorised by an unknown man who keeps appearing on the side of the road thumbing a lift. When she phones home in panic, she realises the awful truth... (60s series) The Monsters are Due on Maple Street: A microcosm of how easily paranoia runs riot, with tragic circumstances, though the ending is a bit silly. (60s series) I'm sure there are tons more, though this are the ones that spring most quickly to mind. |
I remember I read The Hitch-Hiker when I was six years old and it scared the absolute **** out of me.
I've always considered A Nice Place to Visit and The Hunt to be some of the more interesting meditations on heaven and hell out there. Eye of the Beholder and Nightmare at 20,000 Feet are both deserved classics as well. |
I'm actually about to start watching Twilight Zone from the beginning for the first time ever, so this post is a placeholder for my future favorites.

The entire first season is classic. Amazing to think that this stuff is 57 years old.

Oh I have so many favorites but the first ones to pop into my mind are.
To Serve Man... Lovely twist ending Talking Tina A doll that starts talking about how much she doesn't like a little girl's step father. The Invaders which I love because there is no dialogue in it. |

Long Distance Call might be one of the creepiest thing I've ever watched. It's a shame that it was one of the episodes that was shot on video instead of film. I don't want to get into spoilers, but it's the one where a grandma and her grandson have a very close relationship, and then grandma dies...
I'm not a man of faith, but The Obsolete Man (the totalitarian state is gonna execute the librarian for having books, specifically a Bible) is incredibly powerful. And, that episode's opening narration is used to perfection on the new RTJ song 'Thieves! (Screamed the Ghost)' |
I've only seen the original series and have probably seen every episode from the original series a dozen times each or more over many years beginning in my early teens. So many great episodes. I had to check IMDb to refresh my memory but in addition to all of the original series episodes mentioned so far...
The After Hours A Most Unusual Camera A Penny for Your Thoughts The Changing of the Guard The Four of Us Are Dying The Fugitive The Howling Man I Shot an Arrow into the Air The Lonely Long Live Walter Jameson The Masks Nick of Time Nothing in the Dark Number 12 Looks Just Like You The Shelter Stopover in a Quiet Town Probably a lot more I'm forgetting at the moment but the entire run is worth watching from beginning to end. |
